If we were to sign Di Maria and keep Young, then I think we'll get rid of Welbeck as there's no where to play him. Unless we get rid of Kagawa and rotate Januzaj, Welbeck and Mata as the no.10.

Disagree, depends what formation we play, but Welbeck can cover RvP/Rooney upfront while also being able to play as a wide forward (granted he's not very productive there, but he can cover it).

Hernandez is the obvious player to sell, form has been regressing still holds a decent player fee and he can't cover many positions.

Di Maria can play wide or in midfield.

You could argue that Di Maria could be the end of Welbeck unfortunately.
Yep in a 352 one of DiMaria or Januzaj (depending on who plays wing) would be the fourth choice behind Rooney, RVP, and Wilson, unfortunately all three are better than wellbeck

AFAIR we paid 25m for Anderson and Nani combined.

I remember it being £30m for the pair, £16m +add ons for Anderson and £14 +add ons for Nani.

Heres what the BBC reported at the time:

Ducker confirmed it was £25m

I don't know i think he could be wrong.

I doubt the initial fee was £20.5m when every reputable source at the time of the transfer had it lower. Almost every source put it at £30m for the pair so unless Nani cost £10m which i doubt it was less than £20m for Anderson.

This myth has came about i think because Porto released details of the transfer a few years after 2007 and the Euro value was converted to £ at the exchange rate at the time instead of the 2007 rate.

Don't think Di Maria In means Welbeck out. The big assumption we are making that LvG is going to stick to 3-5-2 ALWAYS, here, which is not the case. We didn't even stick to 3-5-2 to whole game vs. Swansea! Welbeck is a type of player Van Gaal would like and can blossom under him. Chicharito is going in all probability so we have 3 strikers only and RvP is injury prone. Will be very surprised if he is sold, at least this year.

Agreed, we'll switch to 4-3-3 if we get Di Maria imo.

If this is true we should go for him. Two years ago he was the best b2b midfielder in Holland. Ajax wanted to buy him but he went to Chelsea because of the special agreement between Chelsea and Vitesse. He is a class player

Even LVG mentioned he needs a wide man to switch to a 433.

Next year, if Wilson develops, maybe. Welbeck staying this year and making next step is crucial for all parties. If another year passes by with him scoring 10 goals at max, then next year we will sell him.

I'd honestly rather Van Persie or Rooney sold than Welbeck.

That's just daft mate in fairness. I can't see Danny ever scoring more than 25 goals in a season even if he was a regular starter up front for us. On the other hand, provided they stayed injury free, I can't imagine Rooney or Van Persie scoring under 25 goals in a season. During SAF's last season in charge Welbeck scored a grand total of 2 goals in 40 games FFS!

We won't sell him to Arsenal though.

Di Maria's wife liked the pictures Rojo liked on Instagram with him and Di Maria in front of a United wallpaper. Its ON! Or she is just stirring the pot to get more money.
Oh. I thought it was more than that :(

This would be bigger than the Mata signing, bigger than the RVP signing too given his age, if it happens.

He wants to start and wont ahead of Rooney or RvP, would more likely be deployed on the flank again when he gets a game. I would sell him as he would command a decent fee and if this were true it could mean we are confident of signing Di Maria.

Probably bollocks though.

Yep, the only surprise if it happens is that it would be the first time we've taken advantage of the annual RM fire sale!

I think if you just shopped in that store, you'd have a world class team by default

Granted they do get top whack for their players :nervous:

Do people really think Di Maria would be that good a signing? I would prefer Vidal.
