I'm not doubting you, but I would assume that the games that Rio or Vidic were playing in were a bit/lot more difficult that the ones Smalling, Jones and Evans played in (not that I doubt the ability of those 3 players)
Against Top 6 Sides
Rio & Vidic: 3 games played, 5 goals conceded (1.67 per game). DLL (0%/33%/67%)
R/V & S/E/J: 8 games played, 14 goals conceded (1.75 per game). WDLLLDLL (12%/25%/63%)
S/E/J & S/E/J: 1 game played, 2 goals conceded (2 per game). L (0%/0%/100%)

Against Bottom 13 Sides
Rio & Vidic: 6 games played, 3 goals conceded (0.5 per game). WWWWLD (66%/17%/17%)
R/V & S/E/J: 10 games played, 12 goals conceded (1.20 per game). LWWDLWWWDW (60%/20%/20%)
No Rio/Vidic: 10 games played, 7 goals conceded (0.7 pe game). DWWWWLWWWW (80%/10%/10%)
All I'm saying is that these guys (S/E/J) aren't as bad as people might think, and R/V weren't pulling any miracle work with them. I'm sure they were learning from them over the years, don't get me wrong, but people shouldn't be too quick to dismiss the ability of the younger guys to pull through a match just as well without them.

I should probably make a thread outside of the Twitter one for this...

Zaha at QPR would as some have said be good move for everybody. Loan with an option to buy.

If Arturo's Knee is holding up the deal, then why did Juve reject the apparent bid? Isn't a bid made with the intention of it being accepted.

£25M?

How does this myth endure, anyone with half a brain could work out the pound/euro exchange rate was different in 2007.

We paid at most £18m for anderson.

There's no way we're getting any money for Anderson. Our best hope of offloading him is in a similar fashion to Nani's Sporting loan IMO.

AFAIR we paid 25m for Anderson and Nani combined.

Nani was 25m EUROS and Anderson 30m EUROS I think so depending on what the exchange rate was at the time.

Really late to this, but just want to point out that it was NOT a case of Rio & Vidic helping the others raise their games. When we played one of Rio/Vidic and one of Smalling/Evans/Jones in central defence last season, we conceded almost twice as many goals and lost over twice as many games as we did when we didn't play Rio/Vidic at all.

Rio & Vidic conceded 0.89 goals per game as a combo, when neither of them were playing we conceded 0.82 goals per game, when only one of them played (alongside one of S/E/J) we conceded 1.45 goals per game. The W/D/L ratio for games without Rio & Vidic was 8/1/2, far better than the 10/6/11 when Rio and/or Vidic were present.
Do you have those same numbers for under Fergie?

Christ I know we've been frustrating this transfer window but we are shifting the dead wood very well. If true about Anderson that would be good for all three parties involved. Now for Fellaini...

Be interesting to see if Rothwell or Pearson make the bench this weekend given the injuries to Fellaini and Carrick plus Ando's impending departure..

Wow Sporting are actually willing to pay £5.5m for Anderson with less than a year left on his contract? At least do something right and sign his release papers Ed! Also I thought we paid around £18m for him?

Ducker confirmed it was £25m

I probably could if I wanted to (I collated the stats using match reports) but it would take me too long, can't be arsed. Sorry!

Really unsure about how to feel regarding the sale of Welbeck. I'd prefer he stuck with us, but then, I also want to see Wilson get more chances and we won't be playing as regularly without CL football, so... :S

Given the add-ons in the Anderson deal were likely based on winning leagues and the CL who actually cares?

After a very productive pre season? Not likely. He's one player that has been responsible for making LvG's system look fluid. Ever since Chicarito came in the one touch play has ceased.
The Evening Standard, who are affiliated to the Independent, have reported the same story. I hope it's bollocks.
