On holiday in Portugal atm and had a chat with a Sporting Lisbon fan taxi driver last night. Talking about Rojo (pronounced Ho-ho) and William Carvalho.

Apparently Rojo is a great defender and an awesome all around player but his attitude let him down. Apparently there were a few new rules this year like no smoking/drinking etc etc and he kicked up a fuss about them (not sure which) I'm sure there will be no problems like that at a club like ours under LvG.

He couldn't praise Carvalho enough, saying he is incredible and easily their best player. Said he'd be annoyed if they sold him for 37mil, thinks he is worth more. Comparing his potential to Ronaldos, obviously for his position, hinting he will be the best DM in the world if he continues this progression. He then continued telling me how good he was now.

Van Gaal isn't the type of manager to get involved in transfer talks unless it is a call to player to convince etc.. SAF was maybe but LVG was pretty clear about it when he joined as well.

Gazetta are as reliable as Daily Mail as we have found out this summer.

I have see feck all of Carvalho but knowing our luck we wont sign him, he will prove himself at some other club and all winter we will be saying he was a steal having being sold to somebody for around £30mil.
 
Benatia has 4 more years contract. All these break up tweets could be true but in a worst case scenario he could be forced to stay at Roma for a long time.
 
I'd be delighted if we managed to bring in Di Maria and Benatia. Then Strootman in January.

Any club where he wants to go pays up 35 million euros or little above that Roma want and he'll be sold.

They'll sign Basa, Nastasic or Chiriches as replacements.

Agreed. To be honest, I'd begrudgingly accept just di Maria for this window, even if it isn't nearly enough in the grand scheme of things. He could make a massive early impact on the team akin to Ozil's impact at Arsenal.

It would mean business in January would be a necessity however and we are traditionally and largely inactive in that window.
 
With regards to di maria it sounds so simple, he wants to leave, real happy to sell at right price, lvg wants.

Only problem is people are forgetting one, well 3 little things...the gimps. They have just seen us spend the most in 6 months ever. They would never release the 40m required for di maria. It will never happen

Probably one of the best negotiators around. Didn't play a major role in building United's/Glazer's) wealth from the marketing side of the business. Last year was probably just a part of his learn curve.

that's because whoever we are actually going for is not leaked to the media, hence, everything transfer related is purely driven by media speculation and therefore, not necessarily accurate

You are right, but I think they are expecting a bit more after seeing Luiz go for 49m€. They were asking 55m or so at the beginning of the transfer window.
