We need a striker badly and all this talk about Cavani/Falcao is just fanciful dreaming. Sturridge won't last the whole season and we have many more games that requires an experienced striker (not an Aspas or Borini). Maybe we can use Balotelli until January when a proper striker becomes available for 30 odd million (Benzema?).

It definitely isn't just dreaming. Barrett says Falcao is the preferred option still.

We played with two some of the game vs Southampton. Rodgers is tactically flexible, it won't just be one set formation that we use.

To me Liverpools main reason for optimism is that your players suit the style and know how to play it. Suarez or not youre quick in transition and awfully good at pressing.

This would lose that somewhat, no?

We used the diamond last season too during the run in to great effect.

I'm sure we have identified targets but it might not necessarily have been players that are attainable unless we spend an insane amount of money on them (Hummels for example). Also the talk about breaking the transfer record was not said in reference to an imminent signing but rather he meant that if the manager wanted a certain player that would demand a club record fee then they would not be afraid to spend that kind of cash. I think the club have certainly failed on many fronts to get some of the players they were after but I think people read too much into Woodward's interview. I guess after Shaw and Herrera most of us really thought we'd get moving. Anyway, I'm on board with you in that we need more signings and ASAP too. I just hope the club and LvG realise this and push as hard as they can.

How hard is it to say if we cannot sign hummels then go for benatia?
if we couldn't get Vidal we go for Lucas silva or carlvalho, it's Di Maria or Cuadrado.

To any of those players you bid €40m+ and things will start to move.
LVG states that he needs signings so the onus is on Woodward, he has one week to make it happen.
 
Was it really to great effect though? Considering..

But anyway, it wasn't really a diamond though since Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling were so interchangeable. Balotelli won't offer you that, he won't pull wide, and he won't work nearly as hard. It's not nearly the same.

Issue is we've not the foggiest if we were actually in for any of those players other than Hummels and di Maria which the club have briefed journo's on. We've outright denied Vidal and Benatia. It could also be that LvG has said no to some players due to them being too expensive or us being '2nd option' to them. Then there's the UCL issue with players like Sanchez who apparently ruled us out early on due to no UCL.
 
So, there only 10 days left and Woodward still hasn't gotten anywhere. This place will go mental when the transfer window shuts, he blew it again.

I'm calm, I trust van Gaal. Not much we can do about Woodward's apparent incompetence, just back the lads.

Having said all this, I do see myself losing it come the end of the transfer window.

If for no other reason than the fact that if he's stupid enough to send stuff like that via email and text then he has no business being part of the intellectual cauldron that is football management.

I went mental when we bought fellaini last year...nothing can be worse than that.
I'm ready for the inevitable.
 
Its becoming clear why Scholes wasn't offered a coaching job at United. You simply cannot have someone around the club who is so negative towards the players there.

I remember in 12/13 Scholes was asked in a then rare interview, who he most liked in the Prem. His answer was Mata. Has he said a decent word about Mata since the guy moved here?

I'm glad scholes is speaking up, someone has to and it sure isn't going to be Gary "442" Neville.
