They have enough attackers. If they are signing someone it has to be as big as Cavani or even Falcao (like they have a chance). But still those are the signings they need not another mediocre striker who can have some good days or mostly is just a bad influence on the team.

This talk of overreacting is bullshit in my view. We were promised a much needed squad overhaul this summer, and as of now our squad looks weaker than it did before last season - LvG aside. We're in danger of missing out on CL for the second year running if nothing else happens, and we definitely won't be contenders for the title.

People are upset, and rightly so.

I'm with you on there being reason to be upset and for concern but who promised you/us this?

We should have paid over the top for benatia as well....that was our vidic replacement....and for 35m

Rojo can be even better than Benatia, but he is not at present. I feel Rojo is the right deal at that price if we are "saving" money to do a couple of expensive deals :D Time will tell I guess.

Hopefully Van Gaal sees it the same as you.

If the opportunity to strengthen arises it must be taken like when we bought RVP even when we had Rooney up top however that goes without saying, if we can sign Vidal then we must and Herrera will likely be second choice number 8 or we use a formation like 4-3-1-2. Obviously Liverpool have not experienced premier league glory so I can understand why you made the error in thinking my post meant we should not strengthen.

No one outright said it but I guess he might be referring to Ed's interview where he said so confidently, "Watch this space" and all we have done since then is sign one player.

If we are saving the money for Vidal/silva and Di Maria then fine.
If not we are playing with fire...top 4 is not assured by any means next season.

Thoughts? To me one of the big Liverpool strengths is the team spirit. He's not going to do much for that, is he?

That's the only reason that I wouldn't want him. I'd look elsewhere if possible, but it seems we have and there is no one available. If his Rodgers managed to actually get the best out of him, he'd be brilliant, but I doubt whether that actually is possible.

Liverpool have made an inquiry about taking Mario Balotelli on loan from AC Milan – Tony Barrett, The Times

Woodie also said with some confidence that we are capable of breaking transfer records this transfer window.

Erm, well.......

I'm still finding it bizarre Liverpool have been targeting striker after striker in the transfer window when Glen Johnson, Martin Skrtel, and Simon Mignolet are still starting XI.

Getting the best out of Balotelli contrasts with getting the best out of Sturridge.

Sturridge will do a job for you on the wing but surely he deserves his chance in the middle for you. Especially if Balotelli is only a loan with an option.

Milan fans are praying this deal goes through..
I've got a couple on my timeline and they're praying it goes through. Didn't realised they disliked him that much.

We would be going with the 4-4-2 diamond I would imagine.

He also said a lot of work was going on behind the scenes.

They think that he is only good at scoring pens and running shirtless

Ballotelli is one of the most overrated players around.

He's not half as talented as people make out...and he's a proper twat

I sadly seem to think the same way. But then I thought the same way about Sturridge when he was at City/Chelsea too.

We need a striker badly and all this talk about Cavani/Falcao is just fanciful dreaming. Sturridge won't last the whole season and we have many more games that requires an experienced striker (not an Aspas or Borini). Maybe we can use Balotelli until January when a proper striker becomes available for 30 odd million (Benzema?).

Agreed, a lot of overreacting going on IMO.

Overreacting when the majority of the first XI and their replacements are average (and not to mention nowhere near their peak form, which is still only average), injury prone or both?

Look back at the 07-08 team, look back at 98-99, look back at 93-94 then look at this squad and tell me that it isn't an absolute shitheap by United standards.

Johnson I can understand, Manquillo and Flanagan could delegate between them, but Skrtel is pretty horrid. Positionally he seems really off the mark and the amount of fouls that go unnoticed in the box that he commits is crazy. He gets a lot of goals though, maybe that makes up for it? Not convinced with Mignolet at all, though. Always looks like he's ready to make an error and he hasn't an assertive bone in his body. Can pull out some great reflex saves but there's far more to a keeper than that.

I know you've used a variety of formations, but they were all with high pressing, fast interchanges and wing play (mostly getting wingers in behind).

Changing to a diamond can't really suit that style/philosophy very well? It'd seem a waste of what you've built up.

To me Liverpools main reason for optimism is that your players suit the style and know how to play it. Suarez or not youre quick in transition and awfully good at pressing.

This would lose that somewhat, no?

Nah I think you need to play with one striker to fit everyone you bought in this summer. You aren't sacrificing Gerrard. So thats one spot in midfield out. Sturridge and Balo up top hypothetically leaves Llallana, Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling, Allen, Henderson, Lucas and Can fighting for three positions.

Disagree on Mignolet tbh. And they did buy Moreno to play LB tbf.

Promised might be the wrong word, at least I'll happily concede that rather than going on a quote-hunt, but it's certainly been alluded to several times. And it's desperately needed regardless.

Thing is, Woodward's interview did allude to us chasing targets but at the same time he said it's up to the manager to identify those targets. I'm sure we have identified targets but it might not necessarily have been players that are attainable unless we spend an insane amount of money on them (Hummels for example). Also the talk about breaking the transfer record was not said in reference to an imminent signing but rather he meant that if the manager wanted a certain player that would demand a club record fee then they would not be afraid to spend that kind of cash. I think the club have certainly failed on many fronts to get some of the players they were after but I think people read too much into Woodward's interview. I guess after Shaw and Herrera most of us really thought we'd get moving. Anyway, I'm on board with you in that we need more signings and ASAP too. I just hope the club and LvG realise this and push as hard as they can.
