Liverpool have provably decided they've given suarez a chance too many to change his behaviour but he keeps repeating all this nonsense. Not sure why barca would want him. Football ability is there but his non football shit will make the club a laughing stock.

Jones needs to be given a run of games at CB. The potentian long-term gains outstrip the short-term risk. If he settles in and makes the position his own then not only do we save potentially £40m odd on a new defender he could be here for the next 12 years in that role.

Indeed. He's suffered over the last few years. He could however be a top class centre back for the next decade, if handled right.

We should go for Moreno is that's true. Especially if Southampton wanted over 30m for shaw.

Yeah that wasn't the point of the tweets, it was discussing Barca's apparently legitimate interest in signing him.

Well we knew that, too, but I was under the impression most people were reacting to us not wanting him rather than Barca wanting him.

Liverpool are not getting alexis.

I think people overstate how important one year in the CL is. If they were a side who regularly qualified it'd be different but they haven't played a match in the competition in over four and a half years. I think any top-level player will want to see they're not just a one-season wonder. It was different with City as they could pay wages to take that doubt away, I'm not sure Liverpool can.

This. I think they'll struggle more than us if they try in the high end of the market.

And if Suarez leaves there isn't anyone else on that level in the squad.

On their website:

The Athletic Club wishes to report that this week rejected an offer from Manchester United FC, estimated at 36 million euros, to transfer the federation and economic rights of the player Ander Herrera.

Rejected our bid?

I think, if we have paid the release clause then we dont need to get a bid accepted by atletic. It is more likely they are saying we dint want to sell, but manutd paid the clause to the league. It only makes the transfer difficult for us as we have to pay clause+ tax. I still think it will go through soon.

Oh dear, why we would get him over here and go this far when a bid hasn't even been accepted?! Hopefully only a matter of time before it's sorted out but doubt he will be announced today when Athletic seem to be playing hard ball.

The buy-out clauses are very complicated for foreign teams due to the high tax

It's funny that it took him doing it again (this time not even while wearing a Liverpool shirt) for a few to finally speak up.
He disgraced his club way before this. The other day's events weren't even really about Liverpool, he just disgraced himself.

I'm sure I read last summer something along the lines of Bilbao being able to what is essentially 'blocking' the money from entering their accounts. At that point, pressure is cranked up by a particular group and they are forced to sell. I know somebody was at risk of libel the other week in regards to this so I won't go any further, but if Bilbao are playing hardball then the club should be willing to play dirty.

Can they even reject the offer when we pay the release clause?
This is a buyout, release clauses are different. Release clause: trigger the clause = you can talk to the player as the "selling" has to accept the figure that triggers the release clause.

Buyout: my understanding, is that the player must but himself out of the contract. The buying club gives the player the money to do this, thus resulting in tax issues as the money the player receives to buy himself out, can be classed as income to the player, thus tax comes in. This is just my understanding.
