Would have liked Kroos but I can sort of see why LVG might have turned him down. I'm not sure a playmaker like Kroos is what LVG wants in the base two of his midfield. Herrera has creative qualities but he is also very industrious and defensively sound. I'd imagine LVG intends to pair him with a similar type of player (Strootman?) or an actual DM. The main creative force will be whoever is playing in front of them (probably Mata).

van Gaal's system comes first, the players are secondary. Kroos is a player van Gaal is already familiar with, trust his judgement.

Still won't stop half of RedCafe going into meltdown when he does sign for Barcelona.

If this is the case, which I suspect it is, I think at the end of the day we'll all be a lot happier with a midfield two of Herrera and Schweinsteiger or Vidal, perhaps. I can see Mata or Kagawa and Kroos getting in each other's way in Van Gaal's system.

Just for the record, that's my view as well. I just know that if this is true, certain posters will be considering leaping from their windows.'

Indeed!

Way I see it, LvG wants to build his own squad, he knows who he wants and how it all fits together. Lets just hope Vidal is one of those pieces?

You just dont turn down world class players, and kroos is a world class player! Strike one for van gaal in my book.

Kroos is not mobile enough to play in a cm position in a LVG team, would be very frustating to see side-ways Toni at United.

If that's the money Kroos is going for it would be madness to not go for him. He would require us to have a quicker midfielder alongside him sure. But he'd be worth it, easily.

I've not seen great mobility from the Holland midfield bar perhaps Blind. I don't see why Kroos couldn't fit into a LVG side. At all.

It will be really sad to see Kroos go to Barcelona, especially for 20million Euros, which is pretty much £16million :lol::lol:

Why are people saying Kroos isn't mobile? He looks pretty mobile to be! He can shoot, tackle, pass, cross, play CAM, CDM, CM so wdf does mobile mean? I know he isn''t the fastest player but neither Carrick, so why the feck do people think he's mobile?

I still trust LVG's judgement though, but I will be pretty pissed off, to see a world class player like Kroos go to Barcelona for peanuts.

Is it not about time there's some bullshit linking us and Shaqiri thrown into the mix?

They don't think he's worth it. They also have Thiago, Goetze, Martinez, Schweinstieger, Rodes, Lahm who can also cover/play in his position, so they aren't desperate either.
Guardiola and Bayern don't feel Kroos is worth his generous demands. van Gaal, who is familiar with the player, and Manchester United don't feel Kroos is worth pursuing. Barcelona and the inexperienced Luis Enrique are interested in Kroos for a relatively modest fee. I mean, perhaps Kroos isn't this world class midfielder some are hyping him to be?

Carrick was never mobile, which led to our slow passing style. Kroos obviously isn't the same but he isn't very mobile either, and doesn't look to go past players. LvG wants a box to box player, who is mobile and can go past players, kroos just isn't that. It's not like he doesn't know about him, he obviously has his reasons if he turned him down.

I think most people who want him are basing it on seeing him play. I don't doubt his class because two managers might not want him. But it could be about character..

Nah mate, he definitely is world class. He pretty much anchored the midfield by himself against us, he was excellent in the CAM/CM role during the 2011/12 season and has been fantastic in his distribution role this season. He's also been great in the world cup so far.

Pep has also stated many times that he wants to keep him, but Bayern have a certain wage system in place and the hierarchy don't fancy players with wage demands.

Blind hasn't played in Midfield for Holland in the World Cup. They play with two holding players and Sneijder.

Kroos is a player that LVG worked with. There must be a pretty good reason why he rejected the chance to sign him.

Moyes' plan seemed to be to pair Kroos with a DM like Carvahlo. That makes sense in a way but Moyes did seem to like his midfield to stay quite deep. I guess LVG wants a bit more dynamism from his two base cms, which means there's no room for someone like Kroos. Players like Herrera, Strootman, Vidal and Schweinsteiger are all more industrious than Kroos, no?

It's easy for us to say "I don't see why he couldn't fit in to LVG's team" but the truth is managers can be very particular about what they require in a certain position. I mean how many Chelsea fans would've guessed that Mourinho was going to get rid of Mata for that very reason? I suspect LVG is at least as precise as Mourinho when it comes to getting balance in a team, "fitting a player in" won't be the way he works.

Holland are slightly different as he has to work with what's at his disposal but even there he placed enough emphasis in the specific qualities Strootman brought to then feel he had to change formation once he got injured. This guy knows what he wants.

Spot on. With van Gaal the system will come first, then the players.

I rate Toni Kroos but if Van Gaal doesn't want to implement him in his system, I back his judgement. That's all there should be to it.

After watching the Dutch play in this WC, I'm pretty much convinced LvG can turn water into wine and stones into bread. If Moyes turned down Kroos, I'd be highly pissed but I trust van Gaal's judgement. He knows which players we need to fit his system.

I don't believe for one second that Bayern were about to hand us Kroos for £16m. Doesn't matter how long was left on his contract, they're a financial powerhouse and held all the cards. Back when numbers like 40m euros were bandied about, that sounded far more realistic.

Arsenal held out for £24m for RVP, and of the big clubs they are probably the "weakest" negotiators in the transfer market.

I like the anticipated Van Gaal plan better. Two players equally capable going forward as defending makes us much more dynamic. Maybe neither is quite as good going forward as Kroos, but they're both much better in defense, and we've got Mata, Januzaj, Rooney, Kagawa, Van Persie and Welbeck in attack anyway. Mata (or whoever is our #10) will drop into space to take up the role of the advanced midfielder, where you'd expect Kroos would have gone.

Not getting Kroos for €20m might come to bite us in the ass in the future. Obviously I trust van Gaal as he knows him more and unlike me, is a football manager and has coached the lad, but my instinct is telling me it'll be a mistake letting him go, especially if the club he ends up at is Chelsea.
