SAF: "We try to do business before we announce anything and that's what we're going to do. I've got nothing more to add" #MUFC @DiscoMirror

This is very unusual and unlike SAF, isn't it? To talk about a transfer this openly, that is.

All this Cass talk of SAF being 'totally relaxed' makes me wonder if RVP has made it clear that he we're his first choice.

Fergie could have chosen to talk about Lucas as well but why just RvP?

If Fergie wants to keep it secret then why has he said this? Until then I think most found it hard to believe anyway. I smell a rat, I do think he's bumping up the price for City.

Arsenal let out the information.

Fergie wouldn't lower himself to making a statement on TV just a so a club with a bottomless pit of cash will have to pay an extra few million.

He's been drawn into commenting, it's clear we've made a bid, he's clearly very interested.

Dunno if the below is true but here you go...

@TransferClock: Reports suggesting that United bid £12.5m, City £10m & Juventus £7m for Robin van Persie, all rejected by Arsenal.

Arsenal will have to accept sooner than later. The player wants out himself and if he tries to force a move to the club he wants, he'll get it. 15m from us will do it, and hopefully Robin chooses sense

Juve are playing a cool game. It's clear they are the ones Arsenal will be wanting to sell to so they are starting very low. £12m from Juve and they will accept I reckon. It'll be down to RVP if he wants to go to City or United.

No way they will sell him for £12m to anyone. They're probably looking for £20m and rightly so as we paid £16m for Young and City paid £24m for Nasri, both of whom were in the last year of their contracts as well.

They'll sell to the highest bidder, that is of course depending on Van Persie... United, City and Juve aren't Arsenal's on pitch rivals thesedays.

Both were quite a few years younger than Van Persie.

i find a bit odd that fergie spoke publicly about united bidding for a player. He usually tends to keep the cards closer to his chest.

"Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him," the manager told MUTV.

"We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen.

"There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."

Arse sparking a bidding war.

Yep. Normally, the AFC leaks would be accompanied by a 'we've no intention of selling him' remark.

Normally I would say that Arsenal will never sell to us - but I think it would annoy Wenger more to sell another player to City

I presume owing to the Nasri saga last summer he's trying to draw the player himself out as if it comes down to a straight bidding war we don't have much of a chance.

Fair point. It's just something we aren't used to I guess.

I have only seen one youtube clip of that Lucas chap and I'm already more excited at the possibility of signing him than Van Persie.

Wayne Veysey @wayneveysey 1h
Fergie just playing games and trying to pressure Arsenal and muddy waters for #MCFC. #MUFC cannot afford RVP package. Lucas the priority.

Muddy waters? Err City can gasump anyone. Pretending we are interested makes no difference to them. Better excuse is to say we were exploring options as Lucas was too costly, to put pressure on Sao Paulo to sell at a reduced price.

That seem an odd thing to say. I agree, it wouldn't bother City to up their bid. Very strange. Maybe Fergie and Arsene are in cahoots.
