Arrogant c**t going for the money that costs us £32m, or a lover of Utd that goes for the club and costs £12m? No contest.

Dzeko's season has been more like Berbatov's than Welbeck's.

A crushing disappointment all round.

Well, honestly, if anyone said such things ("shite" and "crushing disappointment") about a United striker who scored 14 league goals you'd be all over them, together with most of the Caf. The poster would be called spoilt, idiot, clueless etc.

How would you react if someone here said Hernandez's season was a crushing disappointment?

Olic, Pranjic and Breno are gone. They got Shaqiri from Basel, Dante from Gladbach and Claudio Pizarro as striking cover

If you were dropped for a player who returned after he fecked off for six months to play golf you would have to say your season was a disappointment. That said he did deliver for them against QPR when Tevez was hauled off.

I'd say Mancini was disappointing when he brought Tévez back.

Dzeko wasn't spectacular by any means but calling him "shite" is weird. Like I said, he scored more goals in the league than any of our players bar Wayne Rooney.

@GuardianJamieJ
Am told Nick Powell will decide future before returning from holiday / not many in for #cafc midfielder but #mufc are though no bid yet

Psg are planning to tempt utd with 120 m offer for rooney according to talkshite

There's no versatility with them like there is with the Da Silvas, they both play the exact same position, and both will be playing every week, so either the story's false, and we keep Evra, or it's true, and we're getting rid of Evra.

I believe the former.

Exactly, this signing makes no sense to me because I'm very positive we won't be getting rid of Evra.

I don't think we need to anyway. Our season usually consists on over 60 matches and we were very lucky last season that Evra stayed fit for most of it. One of the reasons he played poorly in my opinion was that he was constantly needed and rarely got a rest. I think Evra and Baines could quite happily share the position and get 30 matches each, depending on who is preferred in big matches, and then next season Baines may become first choice and is a good servant for 3-4 seasons whilst a younger player comes through.

I just checked Evra's stats, he's played between 47-51 games each of the last 5 seasons for us, not including internationals. It's a pretty insane number. I would guess most of our square average around 40 games at most. If Evra goes down to 30 and Baines 20 that would logically make sense in terms of keeping the squad fresh and the competition up, but is £12m on a backup LB money well spent? Questionable. However, we're talking short term there. Evra may have it in the back of his mind to call it quits soon (or at least go back home for the end of his career), so getting in a replacement now seems prudent. It would also give Fabio more time to develop.

Although it's not my money, i would be furious if we spunk 12m on him and then not doing enough to source for a central midfielder

This. I've nothing against Baines, but it's nowhere near being a necessary signing, and the money quoted should be focused on central-midfield IMHO.

@DuckerTheTimes: On Baines #MUFC link, #EFC have had no contact at all from Utd, he's valued at £20m and Utd have signed just one 27+yr old for £ in 15yrs

Nonsense. He's getting 100k after tax. I have no idea what the specifics means, but he must be on much more than 100k pre-tax.

Eden Hazard dropping his wage by 70k sounds like Kenny Dalglish giving up his compensation when Liverpool fired him. Pure bullshit.

Hmm...doesn't sound likely at all; in fact, it could be an FFP fiddle.

If Peter Kenyon were still at Chelsea, I could see something like this happening.

"Mr. Kenyon, I've decided to join Chelsea, where can I sign the contract?"
"Here kid, there's just one tiny little thing; you'll earn 70k less than what we agreed on, I hope that's okay"

At this point Hazard would be off to Barcelona though.

FreddieBoswell7 suggesting now we are in for Muniain. He was right on Kagawa long before the papers were in on it so maybe something to it?

I had Hazard in my United team on FM. When he turned us down (irl) I fined him and sent him out on loan. I replaced him with Muniain, who was much better. Created and scored for fun. I signed him for around £17m-£18m.

That has to mean something, right?
