Turns out we're a bit crap, anyone?

With the way things how gone this season finishing 4th will feel like a title win.

Leicester will drop points at Vicarage Road. It's on.

And then we'll drop even more points at The Hawthorns on Sunday. It's off.

All the doom and gloom about top 4 last month was a bit exagerrated, but also are the title hopes now. Surprising strange things happen in football, but it's a bit nonsense to predict them because that would mean they aren't that strange and surprising. Of course a team can lose 10 points more in 10 matches, and 2nd and 3rd al already within reach. It's just not very likely that it's all happening and the same time, Leicester crumbling and none of the other 3 getting a boost from that or finding their form again independently. If the others lose points it will relieve the pressure on Leicester making it more unlikely they will crumble.

But I think top 3 should be the ambition now. We could really do without the CL qualifier, it's two extra matches at a moment you want to train a lot and it's only negative pressure of having to win. That is all about United, with players coming back from injury and youngsters already deflowered there just might be the buzz and the number of players available and in form to have the fight for the other two prizes have a boosting effect on the challenge for 3rd. Because of where they're coming from, it's United and Leicester who can finish the season with positive ambition and energy, while both Arsenal and Tottenham will have the negative pressure of 'if we don't do it now, it will never happen' and City has underachieved anyway, so they will have to mount a very good title challenge very soon to get some momentum and spirit back.

difference is there's more than 1 team that's ahead of us atm

But we have to play them all. And they all still have more than a few hard games.

I dont think its on but just to play red devils advocate, we have to play Leicester and they also have to play Everton and Chelsea. Thats 9 points right there they could drop.

Spurs have to play us, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Arsenal have to play west brom, palace and west ham...

Shitty have to play us, Chelsea and Arsenal.

So, at the end of the day its still wide open even for us. Will we have a chance? Doubt it. If we could get top 4 id be happy. I think if Arsenal can get their shit together they have the best run in. But its still up for grabs.

In days of old a run in like that would have had us all rubbing our hands together. Now we're happy with top 4 and have another go next year. Is it something in the merseyside?

Erm Arsenal still have Tottenham away, Everton away, West Ham away and City away.

Given the standard of the opposition, Fergie or Mourinho could turn the screw and pull this off.

LVG can't. Top four will be a big enough achievement for him from here.

Mathematically yes, realistically no. To make a surge at the Title from 5th position and 10 points off top you need to be in real top class form (despite 2 PL wins in a row we've still only won 3 out of the last 6, losing 2 and drawing 1 and this isn't good enough). I think you also need a more or less fully fit squad (doesn't take a genius to work out we fall short here).
Thirdly you also need a fairly comfortable run-in of fixtures and with trips to Spurs and City plus the leaders to come to OT we don't have that either.
Any United fan looking at the Title as a possibility is being unrealistic and greedy IMO. Right now we face the battle of a lifetime to finish in the top 4 and we should be concentrating on that alone.

We might not be great but were level with City and behind Arsenal (bottlers), Tottenham (top 4 bottlers never mind title) and Leicester. Didn't we throw 7 points in 5 games to City the year they first won the title? We were a good team then as well.

I think if we win our last 10 we would probably win, or be incredibly close to winning, the league. It is a huge ask for us but far from impossible given the craziness I have witnessed this season.

Were not Arsenal. How is greedy. It is there to be won if we can win all our games IMO. Lets make the aim title and fall short into champions league.

We should have lost last night, without De Gea we'd have been 0-2 down before the second half kicked off, I don't see a team that can keep pace with this miserable, half-assed City side for 4th spot let alone one capeable of pulling 10 points back.

People talking about the games we still have to play against Leicester, city etc... But those might be hard games, but they're high risk - high reward games, if we crank up some form from nowhere and win those games we could sneak up from behind.

Can see us getting a maximum of 22 points of f the last 10 games. That will need us to win all of our remaining home games and Norwich away. Leaves us to get four points off Spurs, West Ham, City, and West Brom away.

After that we will still need Leicester to get a maximum of 11 points from 9 games (discounting their game at OT) and Spurs to get a maximum of 14 points from 10 games. City and Arsenal are definitely catchable though. Heres hoping Spurs knock out Dortmund in the Europa League as well.

4th is the best we are finishing IMHO. I'm sure we will will drop a fair few points in remaining 10 games, I dont see us getting to 70 points, which itself would require for example 7 wins, 2 draws and only 1 loss.
It's achievable of course but I don't see it, yes we have won four on the bounce in all comps but two of those teams were dreadful and really we should have lost against Watford.
Some very difficult games to come in cups and league which we will definitely need some of our injured players back to cope with.

Funny how people think Leicester's title race is over when they're 3 points ahead of the rest because they drew 1 game but think we might actually have a shot in spite of being 5th and 10 points behind

1. Arsenal
2. Spurs
3. Leicester
4. Utd/City
5. City/Utd

Yes you are right - it is there to be won if we win all our games. The point is, will we? What evidence is there from the season to date that we are capable of that? Absolutely none from what I can see. It took a stroke of genius last night for us to beat one of the newly promoted teams in the last 10 minutes at home. Yet there's confidence we will win at White Hart Lane and the Etihad? We need to go the rest of the season unbeaten, that's 10 games and the very least I reckon to win the League would be W7 D3. Even then you're also relying on the teams above you slipping up.

You are also right. There is little reason to think we will. I think the point is that every team has struggled this year so if we can go on a run it is really up for grabs. Spurs had won 8 out of their last 9 before last night. If we can match that who knows ..

Imagine the abuse we would get if we did. The Title winning team of 2013 really wound up fans of other clubs, they called it the 'worst side to win the Premier League'.
For this team to have been so average all season, many fans calling for the manager's head, to then burst through and win it..... It would be too much for some people!!

What's with all the short-sighted behaviour? :nono:

The title's surely in the bag, the question is whether or not we have the strength in depth to challenge for the treble? Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup. It's on, isn't it?

Team that should be in the relegation spots top, two bottlers from North London next and behind them one who's been shedding points for months.

It's ours to lose, really, at this point.
That's all very true but you forgot that we're shit!

Has anyone got a list of remaining fixtures for all the top 6?
I know that Leicester's is the easiest on paper. I think Spurs and Arsenal have some hard games coming up.

Given the way the league has gone this year you can't really assume anything from a fixture list.

Yup, 100% this. Coming into this week I thought that Spurs would get a draw at the very best but I assumed that both Leicester and Arsenal would have comfortable home wins.

I agree, VG has never been capable of getting United to go on a run, there is no United 07 08 and 09, no Chelsea 05 and 06 then 2015 to chase, these teams could drop a bucket load of points, but its doubtful United can take advantage.

Way too early for this talk. Right now the race for 4th is back on but if we win our next 3 league games and the teams above don't get full points then we can talk about it.

We're on a run right now ffs, 4 wins in 4 games in 9 days. 1st is dreamer land but there's a decent chance that we could finish 3rd if the lads get their heads screwed on.

We have to play City, and Arsenal have to play City.

Ridiculous talk

Let's focus on getting 4th which will be difficult enough, gaining 11 points on Leicester in 10 games AND hoping that the other 3 don't take advantage is a pipe dream.

Too much to do. Let's hope the players don't see this, they crap their pants whenever we start talking about the title.
