Turkey

All 3 turkish opposition parties(HDP, MHP, and CHP) have come out against it. Gulen also officially rejected it.

It's over

It's not a good move from the military, but the idea that it's some sort of victory for democracy is laughable.
Either way it was going to be as you say or a civil war, there was no positive outcome from this, it's rediculous how people were cheering the idea. The pm played his politics and won the election it's upto the other political leaders to convince the public otherwise.

Just heard the army has declared that they have seized total power.
How do you seize total power when all the people in power seem to be running around freely?

Don't get this coup. Did they even arrest ANY important people at all? I still know next to nothing about the whole thing tbh. I still don't even know how many soldiers are part of this coup.

Well tbf there has already been a civil war before and the situation won't improve.

Rightly so cos if this type of action continue will happen to them when they are in power.

It's crazy how pro-Erdogan CNN has been. Most Americans are completely ignorant about the things Erdogan has done, all CNN can say is "he's the democratically elected leader" over and over.

Like he's Nelson Mandela or something.

How the feck are they going to do that when we're talking about someone who will likely enact full scale dictatorship? Erdogan isn't the PM either, he's the President. They have someone else who's PM.

There were allegations of corruption and vote tampering at the last election. This can't be seen in the same vein as a typical European democratic country. Someone else can't just come in and beat him in an election, because if Erdogan continues to seize power he'll likely ensure he's always the one that wins.

Agreed.

He'll be stronger than ever now and continue to fund ISIS. Democracy at it's finest.
Considering Isis have bombed Turkey just recently, that is a colossally fecked up statement which just emphasises the ignorance of many in the West when it comes to matters in the Middle East.

Turkish intelligence have come out to say that it's over and they've got it under control. The head there is pro Erdogan of course.

Well so is assad

It's a bit of a weird one, though. Considering the anti-Islamic sentiment throughout much of the US (and Europe too), as well as the current fight against ISIS, why are they incredibly pro-Erdogan?

This. I couldn't understand why this started today. I asked that at the beginning of the thread as it made no sense to me.

Would not surprise me if this was a covert red flag conspiracy organized by Erdagon. Very easy way for him to increase his mandate.

It won't happen.

Think this would be a more likely explanation than the usual "false flag" stuff.

Most of the flights that are over Turkish land are transferred to Dubai. The airport there will most likely find itself in pure chaos.

would be interested in hearing why? He already has firm grip over the "pillars of democracy".
Turkey has too much to lose, they would end up pissing off most of their western allies and sour their relationship with the EU.

Turkey has been taken over by Islamic fundamentalists and nationalists that romanticize the Ottoman Empire. The Turkish military would only attempt a coup if they thought that the majority of the population was on their side.

The incompetent and weak nature of this supposed coup makes me strongly suspect that this is a false flag operation orchestrated by Erdogan in order to justify cleansing the military of secularists and tightening his control of the country

Pictures on Twitter showing #Turkish pro coup chopper shot down by #Turkey military F16 fighter jet.

But then again, could as well be some years old, random image from who knows where..

Things don't go your way so the tin hats come out, we see this all time in the west too .

Erdogan is not stupid and has a lot of political experience. He'll do it in an elegant way, but if anyone thinks Turkey is not under dictatorship is fooling himself. He already compromised one of his allies - USA, yet we hear today Obama backing his reign.

Erdagon reported to have landed in Istanbul - he's taking his country back :nervous:
