Is Al Jazeera news (eng) somewhat trustworthy or dangerously biased?
Must admit I've never taken to Erdogan so I'm quite pleased about this. Just hope it's the best thing for the country.

Depends who comes in after the army releases power.Must admit I've never taken to Erdogan so I'm quite pleased about this. Just hope it's the best thing for the country.
This is 21st century. There are other ways to fight injustice than urging civilians to literally go fight the military on your behalf. Perhaps try something else first.Lie down and accpet dictatorship instead?
I don't know.. but listening to Sky made me think the coup would be successful.. and watching Al Jazeera for the last 10 minutes makes me think no one in Trukey wants the coup and it wont succeed...Is Al Jazeera news (eng) somewhat trustworthy or dangerously biased?
Yes that's how he came across...and a nasty one too. He's a dictator. Or at least aspiring to be.
why they kept voting him though?
Hooray for asking civilians to do your dirty work!
I'm a bit confused, what exactly is a coup? How does this work and why are they doing this?
Its been decent the times I've watched it. I thought they went out of business though.
Literally what you've been suggesting the whole thread.
What would you expext in response to a military coup?
Hmm....is there no politician in Turkey who the people would like to lead them?Depends who comes in after the army releases power.
This is a little different to a normal coup though. The Turkish military have a history of removing governments if they decide they pose a threat to Turkey's secular nature.
What are the options? If all you've got is civilians killing themselves, let it happen. What would you expext in response to a military coup?
Do you know who Turkey's PM is?Erdogran isn't a dictator
You think it's at all responsible to encourage civilians, some of whom may be unaware of the current situation, to go out in the streets and fight for you? He's potentially putting their lives at risk. It's selfish. Erdogan's just desperate to retain power by any means necessary.
I'm sorry but what response can you have to a military dictatorship? They aren't often overhtrown peacefully
I'm not sure, but telling citizens to go out into the street to do your dirty work for you while you feck off to another country and seek asylum is irresponsible and selfish. Especially when some of those citizens may be unaware of the context of the current situation, and the threat that fighting for Erdogan could pose to their own safety.
Erdogan lets ISIS and other extremist elements use the border at will.OK maybe a stupid question and dont shoot me if it is , but why are the celebrating in Syria ?
Or they could just wait for the army to relinquish power like they've always done after coups.I'm sure they are aware that taking on the military could be a bit dangerous. The context is obvious, the democratic government has been overthrown in a military coup
Looked like warning shots.Jesus, they are shooting at protesters, live. ON CNN right now.

Thanks. I dont really know much about him , but from what I have seen tonight, the man is a bloody idiot, urging his followers on to the street while he is sat god knows where, this will not end well.Erdogan lets ISIS and other extremist elements use the border at will.
Only biased sometimes when it reports on the Middle East.Is Al Jazeera news (eng) somewhat trustworthy or dangerously biased?
Looked like warning shots.
How long does something have to be around for it to be considered a characteristic?IIRC, secularity is a defining characteristic of Turkey.
Wasn't that directed against communists and enemy forces?Erdogan in 1997:
"The mosques are our barracks, the domes our helmets, the minarets our bayonets and the faithful our soldiers..."

AJ has had an Erdagon supporting MP as its on the ground observer for past 30 mins which is why they are suggesting everything is under contract.I don't know.. but listening to Sky made me think the coup would be successful.. and watching Al Jazeera for the last 10 minutes makes me think no one in Trukey wants the coup and it wont succeed...
So there clearly is some bias ..
Which side is honest... I have no idea.
Saw a guy with a gun on his hand, I have a feeling people are going to die tonight.Looked like warning shots.
