Turkey

IIRC, secularity is a defining characteristic of Turkey.

Lie down and accpet dictatorship instead?
This is 21st century. There are other ways to fight injustice than urging civilians to literally go fight the military on your behalf. Perhaps try something else first.

Do I really need to explain this? Get your head out of your arse mate.

Is Al Jazeera news (eng) somewhat trustworthy or dangerously biased?
I don't know.. but listening to Sky made me think the coup would be successful.. and watching Al Jazeera for the last 10 minutes makes me think no one in Trukey wants the coup and it wont succeed...

So there clearly is some bias ..
Which side is honest... I have no idea.

why they kept voting him though?

For example, he gave jobs to the uneducated and underqualified, as well as benefits every month for simply pledging support to the party. No earning, just receiving. You're in or you're out, and they stay in because it secures their futures, even though the Turkish economy (and youngsters in particular) will invariably suffer due to the haphazard approach to maintaining that support.

I'm a bit confused, what exactly is a coup? How does this work and why are they doing this?

This is a little different to a normal coup though. The Turkish military have a history of removing governments if they decide they pose a threat to Turkey's secular nature.

What would you expext in response to a military coup?

You think it's at all responsible to encourage civilians, some of whom may be unaware of the current situation, to go out in the streets and fight for you? He's potentially putting their lives at risk. It's selfish. Erdogan's just desperate to retain power by any means necessary.

I'm sorry but what response can you have to a military dictatorship? They aren't often overhtrown peacefully

I'm not sure, but telling citizens to go out into the street to do your dirty work for you while you feck off to another country and seek asylum is irresponsible and selfish. Especially when some of those citizens may be unaware of the context of the current situation, and the threat that fighting for Erdogan could pose to their own safety.

I'm sure they are aware that taking on the military could be a bit dangerous. The context is obvious, the democratic government has been overthrown in a military coup

The context is obvious to you because you're seeing it unfold on the news. Many Turks may only be aware that Erdogan's reign is in peril and that he's asking them to fight for him. It's cowardly, selfish and irresponsible either way - the actions of a power hungry dictator determined to use his people as pawns as opposed to one who cares for his people.

AJ has had an Erdagon supporting MP as its on the ground observer for past 30 mins which is why they are suggesting everything is under contract.

For middle east news, I find AJ more empathetic and less PC than BBC. Mainly because this is home turf for them. They were excellent during the Arab Spring. If u his turns into a popcorn event over the weekend I'll be watching AJ
