What a coincidence. Erdogan apologised to Russia which certainly didn't make US very happy and now we see a coup in the country where lots of NATO soldiers are located...
I said Islamist, not Islamic. There is a rather huge difference.
So you don't believe Erdogan is attempting to transform Turkey into an authoritarian Islamist state? Have to agree with @Fener1907 in that case, you have no idea about Turkey.
You sound like such a simpleton. To reiterate, you have no idea what you're talking about. Don't worry, there are plenty of you.
No, just loosen the forced secularisation of Attaturk. The fact that there was a huge fuss because his missus wore a scarf shows the stupidity of Turkeys secularists

Just saw thatParody account.
Thanks!, good explanation.Yeah, he's pro Islam, but dangerously so. The population is largely defined as religious, although the average Turk's idea of what it means to be religious is seriously tenuous. There's a serious disconnect between his ambitions for Turkey and what those religious Turkish people desire. For example, it's no secret that ISIS has been freely moving through Turkey because of grand designs for Syria. If that isn't enough to convince people how unstable he is, I don't know what is.
It's not just about being sick of him like you might be sick of Rajoy for his conservative stances. He's simply a threat to democracy in Turkey and is leading the country down a seriously dangerous path. You can't value democracy and at the same time support him, because he's going to do away with it all in the end anyway.
You say that like it was ever in doubt.Confirmed, you know nothing about what Erdogan has been doing for the last five years.

Message from a redditor:
From my friend in Ankara "He can see large amounts of heavly armed police marching down the street. And what seems to be APC's and police armed with automatic weapons. Also see's non police AKP supports armed and unarmed marching with them. He doesn't know what's their destination."

Confirmed, you know nothing about what Erdogan has been doing for the last five years.
E.g. March of this year:
President Erdogan says freedom and democracy have 'no value' in Turkey amid arrests and military crackdown
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...urkey-amid-arrests-and-military-a6938266.html
Reading the article its the standard authorian reponse to terrorism, nothing Islamist in nature
The Turkish military have launched a coup. Erdogan is outside the area, probably in Bodrum or on his way elsewhere.
Military attempting a take over because they don't like the way Erdogan is taking the country (less secular)I'm a bit confused, what exactly is a coup? How does this work and why are they doing this?
The "forced secularisation"? Are you serious?
Might I ask where you are from?
A coup is the act of taking over a country, from within, by force. The generally happen because of disagreements between one sect vs the other (government vs army in this case). You can read the last few pages to find the army's reasoning here.I'm a bit confused, what exactly is a coup? How does this work and why are they doing this?
Still can't believe he said "Take the streets". What a colossal cnut.
It doesn't matter who is in power, Turkey is never joining the EU while other countries have a vote on the matter. If they new leadership are actually serious about Democracy, human rights etc then it may accelerate it.
Hooray for asking civilians to do your dirty work!Horay for the Military!

Literally what you've been suggesting the whole thread.Lie down and accpet dictatorship instead?
