Turkey

Right.

Democracy lost. But since it's Islam being "overthrown", this is a win apparently.

Aye, people are blinded in their hatred for this. That's what hatred does, it makes them wash over their rational minds for that.

If the ideals involve the military overthrowing the democratically elected government the ideals aren't worth holding onto
How do we know Erdogan didn't defraud the elections?

Unfortunately she is in Turkey atm.

I haven't heard from her but I assume that the Army wouldn't risk WW3 but endangering tourists - but still, hope that she is ok and is able to fly home as planned
Shit sorry mate. I read it as she went in one week. Where about's is she?

Ah right lads, message me if the world goes to shit. It already is, but can't get any worse right? I'll see what the latest is in the morning

Gazza will be along soon with the fishing rods at this rate.

Turkey isn't a properly functioning democracy. Anybody who tries to tell me that it is can swivel. I've lived there, I've seen it, and I left because of how shit the situation was.

Presumably the USA knew this was going to happen, can't see a military coup in a NATO member country occurring without their knowledge and permission.

When Boris stops trashing the Bullingdon Club he'll find out about it. Has he insulted Turkey recently ?
Portugal had a revolution in 1974 and USA had no idea but USSR was already involved, the revolution started because the military wanted more money but they had no idea the communists already had infiltrated the army.

Anyone who supports this coup is an idiot and doesn't really believe in democracy
Screw your "democracy" if it means waging war against minorities in the country. Erdogan had to be stopped.

Only problem is I have no idea if the military will be any better. But just because Erdogan was elected doesn't mean he doesn't have to be stopped. Democracy is NOT just about a majority.

watching this guy on Sky broadcasting from the Centre of Instanbul and it does not look very safe one bit , he has been told to stop and he just carries on, he is a braver man than me.

Yep, got a lot of admiration for journalists in such circumstances.

Yeah I'd say so, especially if they're securing the nuke sites. No way the military would go near those without warning the US first, although I'd expect the US to feign ignorance and concern at first.

Apparently Erdogan has called for his supporters to go to the squares and airports. Doing that could lead to a bloodbath if you ask me.

Yep, sounds more like a desperate man trying to cling onto power by any means necessary as opposed to a ruler with any semblance of control remaining.

Tancredi live tweeting this (and getting plenty of coverage).

Incredible.

NBC news is saying president Recep as been denied entrance and is seeking asylum in Germany,. Speculation.
