I suppose we'll know the outcome if Erdogan goes on TV and claims he's got things under control. If they coup leaders were thick enough to not arrest Erdogan (something you learn in Coup 101) then they deserve to flop.

You'd imagine that your average Turkish citizen hasn't got a fecking clue what to do, how to react and what to believe with all the conflicting reports and chaos.
Except they didn't really, certainly not in a way that we would associate with actual real democracy.
Civil war or indeed widespread violence is certainly possible when large swathes of the population are disenfranchised and they feel that democracy has been subverted.
Which would be a huge shame. I hope there is as little violence as possible.
No one should be surprised. Army has seen their country being taking further and further away from a secular nation.

Presumably the USA knew this was going to happen, can't see a military coup in a NATO member country occurring without their knowledge and permission.

I haven't heard from her but I assume that the Army wouldn't risk WW3 but endangering tourists - but still, hope that she is ok and is able to fly home as planned
