Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

I think that the minute that this memo is released he should be arrested on an obstruction of justice charge.

The Norm Eisen tweet above shows that Nunes and Trump's actions on the memo, could in and of themselves be perceived as an attempt to obstruct justice.

Rachel Maddow is a xenophobe. She listed all the Russians attending the World Economic Forum in Davos and said that Trump attended the forum just to meet them and that they are his "puppet masters". Imagine if you replace "Russians" in her accusation with "Jews" or any other people. They would be called out for blatant xenophobia, bigotry or racism.

She wants Trump to escalate conflict with Russia. She's lost her mind. And she's a xenophobe who is trying to turn people in the US against Russia. Despicable "journalist" and human being. David Schuster did a good job here. This conspiracy mongering and anti Russia stuff needs to stop. Democrats are basically saying that all Russians are not to be trusted? That's pure xenophobia.

When properly contextualized within recent Russian interference and Trump's unwillingness to criticize Russia for it, she as a journo, is well within her rights to identify Russians attending Davos and potentially coming into contact with Trump.

Pasting the entire thing:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement on partisan attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice:

“In 2016, the Russian government engaged in an elaborate plot to interfere in an American election and undermine our democracy. Russia employed the same tactics it has used to influence elections around the world, from France and Germany to Ukraine, Montenegro, and beyond. Putin’s regime launched cyberattacks and spread disinformation with the goal of sowing chaos and weakening faith in our institutions. And while we have no evidence that these efforts affected the outcome of our election, I fear they succeeded in fueling political discord and dividing us from one another.

“The latest attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests – no party’s, no president’s, only Putin’s. The American people deserve to know all of the facts surrounding Russia’s ongoing efforts to subvert our democracy, which is why Special Counsel Mueller’s investigation must proceed unimpeded. Our nation’s elected officials, including the president, must stop looking at this investigation through the warped lens of politics and manufacturing partisan sideshows. If we continue to undermine our own rule of law, we are doing Putin’s job for him.”

Thank god there are still republicans withe some integrity. I mocked McCain when he was the POTUS nominee but quite honestly I think he would have made a pretty damned good President.

Russia is a country not a race. Russian's can be of any race, despite what Russian football fans might have you think. The rest is context as Raoul has explained. I think she's a annoying but some of her journalism is very good and at worst she is a much needed counterbalance to Fox news, although she's nowhere near as mental as some of their talking heads.

How long do we give it then? Will he step down before Trump fires him? This is going to get very messy now.

That's likely the true purpose of the memo - to discredit Rosenstein for renewing the FISA and then try to get him to quit, so Trump can then emplace a sycophant Deputy AG as a pretext to fire Mueller.

How many races are there in Russia? Russians, Chechens, Ossetians, Georgians, Armenians are all Caucasian.

Trump's "shithole" remark was called out as xenophobic, but Maddow's "All Russians are untrustworthy" implication is fine?

"Good journalism, Rachel!"

I'm suspicious of Russians by default. But I'm also suspicious of French people and Chileans... so make of it what you will.

EDIT: Or also... if you meet an American diplomat in Moscow, its probably right to be suspicious. Same goes for Russian business people attending Davos.

You're ignoring the context of Maddow's inquiry, which is 2016 Russian interference in the US elections. Therefore she is quite within her journalistic rights to pursue whether Trump might meet with Russians in Davos. This is normal journalism when you consider the context.

This dossier is also shitting on the FISA judges by extension, right?

Bold move, Cotton.

EDIT: What an ongoing, never-ending, clown show.

Sounds more like they're claiming the FBI withheld relevant information from the judges.

Trump explicitly said "shithole" countries. Maddow didn't imply that at all. She implied that it was interesting that Trump made the trip to the forum to meet the Russian's that attended. The Russians that attended just so happen to be influential people with links to the Russian Government that Trump is suspected of colluding with. That's why she brought it up, not because they just so happen to have Russian passports and therefore are bad people.

She might be stretching to make the link that Trump only attended to meet Putin's associates but you're definitely stretching to say that is racism.

Great job at taking it out of context, Nikhil!

Just read the Nunes Memo. What a galactic nothing burger. Basically just a 4 page Trump/Nunes talking point document to attempt to discredit the FBI and Rosenstein.

Wow, the memo is even more empty and worthless than expected. Unbelievable that Washington wasted a week worrying about this stupid shit.

♪It's the cherry-picked memo endorsed by a clown♪

Does anyone know if there's any kind of pro forma defense lawyer at a FISA court? If not, then does the judge essentially play that role him/herself?

Three things stand out to me -

1. It is evident that protecting Carter Page for whatever dubious reasons is of the utmost importance to Nunes and his gang - and by extension I assume POTUS
2. They re completely trying to discredit the Steele dossier - again reads to me they are scared of it.
3. All people not appointed by Trump directly at DOJ and FBI are bad.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1

Chuck Todd on @MSNBC: "The House Republican Intel folks are actually making their partisan case look even worse right now because they're releasing excerpts of the memo already to friendly media outlets... The whole thing just smacks of a partisan exercise."

The Nunes memo says that the investigation into Trump/ Russia was prompted not by the Steele Dossier, but by Papadopoulos.

He said she is xenophobe, not racist.

Also worth noting is the Dem memo, which hasn't been released yet, apparently contains information that the entire Russia investigation started well before the Steel dossier was known to exist.

Nunes released a memo to support the idea that Steele's dossier was the cause of the FBI investigation via Carter Page. And actually forgot to take out the part where the FBI investigation was already underway because of George Papadopoulos. While neglecting to mention the part about whether there was any cause for Carter Page to be investigated beyond the Steele dossier.
