Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

From that NY Times article:

Mr. Rosenstein made these suggestions in the spring of 2017 when Mr. Trump’s firing of James B. Comey as F.B.I. director plunged the White House into turmoil. Over the ensuing days, the president divulged classified intelligence to Russians in the Oval Office, and revelations emerged that Mr. Trump had asked Mr. Comey to pledge loyalty and end an investigation into a senior aide

This "presidency" is so utterly mental this this has become almost a footnote, something mentioned in passing.

This would bring down other Presidents by itself ffs

Leaked by Trump to prompt his dismissal?

That’s 150% come from the Trump side.

Quite possible, although the Times should've filtered that into their logic before publishing. They usually go by multiple sources (more than the usual when its a potential bombshell story), so they should've known that their many sources were all pro-Trumpers and if they were then it should've somehow been woven into their story.

Now they believe the failing NYTimes?
In anycase don't think this changes much. Trump is going to fire Sessions and Rosenstein after the midterms and not before.

If anyone was wondering why Trump is lining his ducks up to fire Rosenstein, here’s your answer.

Thing is, anything investigated up to this point wouldn’t go away if Rosenstein is fired. The feds are still by statute obligated to investigate and prosecute all violations of federal law, so any attempt to interfere with that process would itself be perceived as an attempt to obstruct justice.

It’s pure desperation.

I’m not sure it’s about stopping anything at this point, it’s about framing the whole investigation as a deep state conspiracy.

The court of public opinion and all that.

Honestly just staggered that Trump divulging intelligence to the Russians hasn't had the Fed's at the White House already.

It's beyond impossible now.

He'd literally sell out his country just to get another Tower. He doesn't give a damn about America.

Its somewhat complicated by the fact that the President can declassify anything he wants, so if Trump inadvertently blabbed something to the Russians he could conceivably hide behind that.

In a statement, Rosenstein called the story “inaccurate and factually incorrect” and said the anonymous sources behind it were “advancing their own personal agenda”.

“But let me be clear about this,” Rosenstein said. “Based on my personal dealings with the president, there is no basis to invoke the 25th amendment.”

“Based on my personal dealings...”

“...whereas based on the information I’m privy to, his goose is cooked”.

Today, I find for the first time in my life and government career that I have zero confidence in the system and that somehow, someway the good will prevail.

We're fecked.
