Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Manafort was obviously straddling the fence attempting to coax a pardon out of Trump. When one didn't come, he quickly pivoted back to Mueller to try and negotiate his way out of the charges in the upcoming 2nd trial. The question at this point will be whether Mueller has any tangible use for anything Manafort has to say about Trump, and whether Manafort himself is willing to tell all about his campaign experiences.
Sorry, something I don't understand about the Presidential Pardon. Don't you get a Pardon after you've been found guilty of something and sentenced?

Great stuff. Don’s gonna blow a gasket.

Normally yes, but I think a pardon can also happen during a trial. The downside to that would obviously be that the President could be perceived as attempting to obstruct justice, which may have not been lost on Trump when considering it.

I'm genuinely curious what Manafort offered Mueller in order for the deal to actually take place. It had to be something substantial for Mueller to consider it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was unrelated to Trump and the Trump Campaign and was invaluable testimony against Russia/Russian Agents/Oligarchs/Banks and whatever/whoever else he was mixed up with in Eastern Europe.

That's possible but I somehow doubt Mueller would've spent this much time attempting to flip Manafort if he didn't already know he was in possession of some very damning information he needed in his pursuit of Trump.

Any indication that this plea involves cooperation, and is not just Manafort acknowledging that he has little chance of winning the trial while Mueller gets to avoid the hassle of the trial?

Am I right in thinking that the two superseding indictments he is pleading guilty to were not among those due to be heard in his second trial? And if so I wonder does that mean the untried indictments could be held as leverage at the state level in case of a pardon.

I don’t think this is a negotiated part of the deal as such. I think this is just standard practice and would have all been confiscated had the guilty conclusion come from a verdict rather than a plea.

I'm interepreting this in one of two ways

1. Mueller has everything he needs from Manafort and simply wants to avoid a 2nd trial to preserve his resources.
2. Mueller has a case so strong against Trump that he can't be bothered wasting his time going after Manafort in a second trial and simply wants to finish up with him so he can move on to the likes of Stone, Don Jr. et al.

Either case is very bad for Trump

I don't care what he gives Mueller, I want that traitorous feck to die in jail, ruined and disgraced.

Not bummed....I don't condone prison rape.

Now Mueller has a first person account of the Trump tower meeting with that Russian lawyer and everything Don Jr and Kushner had to do to put it together. This is huge.

Cooperation confirmed? That is potentially serious.

Cohen has knowledge of the meeting. My guess is Mueller already knows what happened in that meeting.

Yeah but Manafort was sitting on the meeting and can testify to what was discussed because Don Jr and daddy claimed it was all about adoptions.

I thought Cohen sat in on it as well?
In anycase, Trump and Rudy will now try to paint Manafort as "not credible".

The question I want answered is why it's taking ages to charge Roger Stone when it's so obvious he's in trouble. Roger Stone says Mueller has not even requested a meeting.

He may potentially want something from Manafort that would implicate Stone even more before proceeding. Altenratively, he could just be laying low due to the elections silence period between Sep and Nov.

Manafort must have stuff on Stone going back to when they had a lobbying firm together. I want that cone-headed muthafecker dying in jail too.
