Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

We should be all over Lucas and Matuidi.

Not sure we need Matuidi. Should have enough depth with Matic signing. Lucas could be a good signing even though I have some doubts about his ability to handle the physicality of the Premier League as I did when we first tried to sign him. Still, hugely talented player and excellent dribbler. If available cheap wouldn't be a bad option for the wing. That being said, he'd be a risk if he was the only winger we signed imo.

Strange time for Glaston to see his manager say what some in the forum have said too which he's vehemently disagreed with.

What I said was that it's a not a race to see who can sign the most new players in the fastest time. And even if some transfer muppets believe that there is such a race, it doesn't seem to have dawned on them that there's no prize for winning it.

Pochettino has not said otherwise.

Assuming Matic will be brought in and he would replace Carrick mainly. Matuidi could be Herrera's cover whereas Periera could be Pogba's cover. I rate Lucas Moura pretty high. I just think the guy has a lot of potential and he could be a diamond in the rough if Mourinho can get him under his wings. Talent-wise he's better than Willian and Willian has done really well for Chelsea and not to mention that Lucas is just 24. Even if we get Perisic, I think Lucas should still be bought, he's one of the few orthodox wingers out there who runs to the by line and crosses and offers more direct play rather than passing (which practically all of our attacking players tend to do)

Which would be fair enough, but spurs have signed nobody as far as I know.

Not disagreeing with anything you've said about Lucas. He's a fantastic talent that I've watched since his time in Brazil. He'd just be a bit of a risk if he was the only attacking option we brought in. You're forgetting we still have Fellaini as backup for Herrera.

Good stuff, now on to #4.

Always good to have more depth in midfield, although Matic per se wouldn't win us trophies. We need more attacking talent, and if acquired, then matic will help them flourish. Still, at a quoted price (35m + 5m add-on) it is, I would say, a solid signing. Much better than 50m reported a few days ago

The question is, whether it will be a trio with him, pogba and Herrera, or mostly rotation between matic and ander alongside pogba (if, as rumored, mourinho plans to play as a back 3 more often, it is unlikely to see a trio in midfield in this setup).

The only system we've played with 3 at the back is the 3-5-2 though, so a 3-man midfield. Real question if we're using that setup is whether we use a more attacking cam like Mkhi or a more traditional 3-man midfield with Matic, Herrera, and Pogba

Well, so what? As I've said there is no race and the window still as a month to run.

But to think that the transfer window lends itself to making last minute deals for key players on other teams' squad is a bit naive, no? Where is the selling club going to find a last minute replacement for the key player you are taking from their squad. That's why there IS an urgency to make early moves in the window. Just go ask Arsenal how their Lemar transfer is proceeding, as they waited too long to make their move and Monaco may not sell even if their 80m valuation is met now that they've sold 3 key players from last year.

Just regarding the fee, seems to be £35m up front with a further £5m in potential addons. About as good a deal as you could get for any 1st XI Chelsea player imo

Does spurs lack of activity not concern you ?

Not really. I'm sure we'll make one or two signings. We are probably waiting re. Barkley for Everton to see if they can get more money than Spurs are offering from a club that the player is willing to go to.

Well your manager has made comments today, so there must be slight concerns.

I think his comments were made in comparison to City, following our recent friendly loss against them.

Only the day before that he said: "We are calm but we have a very clear idea of who we want and what we need to do to achieve our target. I want to say to our fans ‘don’t be worried’ because today there are a lot of rumours around. We will move on the market, sure, and we will be competitive like last season, sure.”

We're not necessarily looking for key players from other team's squads because our first XI is already strong. Barkley is an exception (in terms of his being a key player for Everton), but then Everton have little choice but to sell him now since he apparently won't sign a new contract and they can't afford to see him go for nothing in the winter window.

I can't get too excited about it but it is a good signing. £35m for 29 years old, im sure we could have unearthed some decent talent with a resale for that.
