Isn't it more to the point that Perisic is a player that fits what Mourinho wants in a winger more so than Costa does?

Sure, the point being Costa is never going to play 60 games in a consistent manner but Mourinho needs consistency, you having enough youngsters already. I know well, we have Mandzukic, the archetipical donkey striker.

one more player who thinks he's a lot better than he actually is.

Half the forum got a bit carried away with this chap at the time. Worst thing that happened for the lad was that huge long term contract. After that, he thought he'd made it, after a tiny number of good games in a shocking season for us as a whole.

He certainly fits Mourinho better if only for his attitude. Costa's a diva, and a lot of his performance dive last season came from Ancelotti preferring Robbery over him when they were available. Whenever he was subbed in for one of the two he acted like a spoilt brat, and pretty openly refused to contribute.
Regarding sheer player ability, Perisic is the clearly inferior player. I've seen him for 3 years in the BuLi, and he was never anything else but the embodiment of mediocrity. Pretty much everyone considered the 18m Wolfsburg got for him a damn good deal.
I'm however surprised by the numbers he produced for Inter. Have not seen any Inter game last season though, so cannot really judge whether it was him reaching a higher level or just a fluke.
Anyway, a fee of around 50m for him still seems ridiculous. But hey, you're Utd and you can afford to splash out absurd sums for rather unimpressive players.
Still sad Woody didn't sweep in for Costa, though. I'm sure we could have gotten 60 or 70m for him, if it had happened:(

If we get the mooted targets and De Gea leaves as well as Ibra gone you could easily make the argument we've actually regressed in this window while spending a lot of money
Yea but how much worse off would we be if they left and we didn't spend the money.

No, I'd honestly say that both are more in the mold of Valencia but Costa has a trick in him, neither of them are close to Nani's flair when he was on his game IMO.

I'm not overly enthused by the possible signing of Perisic but my god, Costa is shockingly overrated. I wouldn't have went near either, personally.

Neither would have been top of my list either, but if Mourinho wants a touchline hugger then I think Costa would have been a better option.

I've always found Costa very overrrated on here, in general. Most people I know don't rate him whatsoever. He's certainly more exciting then Perisic but I can see why Mourinho - who obviously likes a certain type of player - would prefer Perisic. Both are pretty underwhelming and I have no idea why Juve bothered with Costa.

Perisic does more dogs work so yeah, I can see why Mourinho prefers him, like you though I can't see why anyone with the big money and the ability to attract the best would have either as a first choice option.

That's a good move for both regarding Zouma. I don't think he's looked the same since his injury and he needs regular football.

Doesnt this leave them short at CB if they are to Continue 3 at the back?
They have plenty of CB's: Cahill, Luiz, Rudiger, Kalas and they have Christensen, Hector and Miazga back from loan moves. The latter 2 will likely leave on loan again, but Christensen is very good.

forgot about him. Other two are trash and arent worth mentioning
