Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

I think a 9 has to be the primary focus, Jose's system relies heavily on the striker holding up the ball. No point in Griezmann without securing a striker first.
Have you seen Ibrahimović already kicking balls?

He isn't under contract and relying on a mid-30's striker coming off a major injury like that would be the height of foolishness.
Does his contract end mid-May, unlike any other player? I guess you mean he won't be under contract coming July. If we get Griezmann, we wouldn't have to rely so much on him, since we have Rashford and Martial too. He's just so good that I see much more risk, not to mention cost, on buying another striker, like Belotti or Lukaku.

If we are counting on Ibra making a comeback, the least we should do is resign Chicha as a backup option. Rashford / Martial are not ready to lead the line.

I'm not counting on a one man attacking line, so…

Anything good said mate? Watching the electoral debate so can't listen atm.
Basically said Utd have 4 priorities, but might sign more. Says we accept that we might not get all our first choice targets so we have contingency plans and have contacted around 15-20 players so far, the fact that we didn't know whether we would end up in Europa or CL next season muddled things further.

He expects Griezmann deal to go through. The only issue is the structure of the payment as Atletico want half the cash upfront. He thinks we might get one of Lukaku or Belotti but wouldn't bet on it. Expects Smalling, Rooney, Zlatan, Martial and Januzaj to leave. De Gea is 50-50 according to him.

He did say he expects us to have 3 new players before we go on US tour but as with Utd always expect a transfer saga that will drag on.

Good summary. Cheers.

So basically a whole lot of general stuff, repeating what has always been rumored.

It's little like that section from The Secret Footballer's book where he talks about teams drawing up lists of transfer targets at the start of the summer. Chances are that number one will be most difficult to sign and therefore a club will work down the list in order of preference until they manage to make a deal happen. Supposedly this is why certain transfers occur entirely unexpectedly very late on in the window with said player often quoted as saying it happened out of the blue or something to that effect. Funnily enough this is pretty much precisely what Daley Blind said after he joined us!

Why ? They don't have any bench players for Kante and Matic. They're going to play on 4 competitions next season including CL. Surely they'll love to have more depth in the squad. They can't play with the same 11 all the season as this one.

Why would Bakayoko sign to be on the bench. Everyone thought Kante was one of the best players. Matic is in his prime, why would he want to waste the years on the bench?

People love to use the depth line, but depth is having abled deputies or young players not players who could start at any ther top team.

Pretty much. You get this quite a lot this time of year. Radio shows for example will get journos on to discuss transfer matters and they tell you nothing 98% of the time.

FFS - please use a bit of judgement before gleefully scampering in here with BS tweets. Avoid fake accounts (verify the source before tweeting), random ITK bullshitters (masquerading as "freelance" journos) and complete fake news accounts.

Stick to known journos.

I would welcome Perisic with open arms. He would be a fantastic signing for us.

Why has the tweet been removed? That twitter account had half the inter Milan team following it, it has to be real.

I took that into account before posting but saw he was followed by Jake Cohen and Kaveh Solhekol so I gave him the benefit.

So half his team who are verified accounts following it isnt enough to confirm.its real?
That had me stumped, but when you actually look at it, it can't be real. Why not verified? Why only 7k followers?

It's a very convincing account if its fake and has done incredibly well to get all those verified accounts to follow him.

Alexanko, HOW COULD you forget Alexanko

I thought after Herrera, Valverde might be targeting players he already worked with as most managers do, but was unsure if he got to train Javi Martinez, then the anecdote happened

Valverde coached Athletic from 2003/2005 and 2013/2017
Martined played with Athletic from 2006 to 2012

Not only they perfectly avoided to be in the same club, Javi Martinez was signed directly from Osasuna in the 2006 summer so chances are Valverde hasn't trained Javi Martinez a single day of his life despite the fact that between both of them they cover the last 14 years of Athletic's history
 Ishdalar, the tweet was about Íñigo, not Javi

If a player is good enough, he'll do well wherever he is. There was never any doubt that Pogba wouldn't do well here because he's a world class player. Griezmann came 3rd in the Ballon d'Or voting and that itself is a reassurance that he'll be a success, not to mention that he possesses every skill bar strength that an attacker would need.

Griezmann is actually stronger than he looks but what he lacks in physical prowess, he has in football intelligence.
