It would surely be overkill, I can't see them both playing in a midfield of 3, maybe as a midfield 2 but that would mean Herrera not playing and Pogba moving into #10 role.

Would be a replacement for Paredes you'd think. Monchi is building a treasure chest. Surely to be able to fund a big signing at some point. Perhaps for Dzeko whenever that sale happens or a proper midfielder of course. They're looking at bringing in Pellegrini back from Sassuolo as well, might be a potential Nainggolan replacement who knows.
The idea does not lack sense. Matic is more of a deep lying playmaker than a DM. That's something most people miss. People try to lock him into a DM role but he is not at his best playing that role. Meanwhile, if Fabinho is not playing right back, his best role is as a DM.
