Not sure if serious. That's how Bayern roll. Nobody got a sniff of the Alonso deal too. Similarly, as far as I remember, Renato Sanches.

This one, though I particularly doubt because Bayern wouldn't want to sell him far as I see. Would be a wonderful signing for City though, just what they need at the back.

You're talking about Bayern buying players, not selling ones. Sure English journalists should have heard of City negotiating for a player like Martinez or something like that.

not exactly world class players that we need
Well quite a few top clubs were willing to spend big on Renato Sanches. That doesn't prove anything.
We and PSG spent big on Di Maria too.
Like I said, let him make the move to any big club and people will see he's no more than a good striker. Definitely not the next superstar or the next Brazilian Ronaldo/Thierry Henry.
And not worth 70m€ let alone 135m.

Have you seen him play? I am curious to know on what grounds are you predicting Mbappe will not be the next superstar. Really open to considering your view. What weaknesses in his play make you reach that conclusion?

And big clubs being keen on buying a young star does actually say a lot about the lad because such clubs have the experience, knowledge base, structure and personnel to spot big talents. It is actually unusual for such young players they battle to sign to end up average. Too early to write off Renato Sanchez. He has only had one poor season and that's partly due to the fact that he has not had much game time. And for Di Maria, PSG is not exactly regretting buying him.

There's a reason they 'only' want £23m: he's not very good. I'd honestly much rather see any of those minutes go to Andreas Pereira who looks just as much of a prospect.

Dont get me wrong, I too think Pereira has huge potential and deserves opportunities.....but....you are saying he is just as much as a prospect and Sanches isnt very good. Pereira still hasnt broken through yet and has played barely a few games for us, just as Sanches has played only a few games for Bayern. Yet Sanches has also played a big role in a title winning Benfica team and a big role in a European winning team...........and he is TWO YEARS YOUNGER than Pereira, what was Pereira doing two years ago?

The fact Sanches has done so much so young and then had a season with scarce opportunities moving abroad to one of the biggest clubs both in terms of stature and success in Europe this season with one of the best array of central midfielders in there squad, seems to have people writing him off when its actually something to be applauded, yet as you have there are people are talking up some of our young players who are actually older than him who have barely broke through.

He is still a kid, whether people think he can become a really good player or not in the future is one thing but writing off a kid as a failure that has done more than 99% of other players his age so far I find strange. Tielmans only went for £26-28m or something like that, Dembele last season for half the fee. I highly doubt he will leave for £23m more £30-40, but really the fee is irrelevant. There are some great players that have moved for pretty small fees year in year out and then there are some ridiculous fees paid for average players, particularly within the premiership it seems. I remember only a few weeks ago people talking about Michael Keane being a great deal as a back up for £25m, I totally disagreed with that, but £23m for Sanches in comparison would be a no brainer for me as much as I would like Pereira and TFM to break through this season. Id like Tuanzabe to play more as well, but that doesnt mean I wouldnt have wanted us to sign a quality young centre back which we may have done in Lindelof (not seen him to be abl eto pass judgement on).

I don't find English media particularly competent. They're too busy figuring out what the fans want to hear rather than reporting what's actually happening. Wouldn't put it beyond them to completely miss a transfer like this till the player arrives for a medical.

Paredes and Manolas are way too good to waste away at Zenit. can't believe no other top clubs have gone in for him

You guys could do a whole lot worse than Manolas, especially at the prices touted.

If he is willing to go to Zenit he sure would be willing to go to you lot as well ;)

As long as Martial steps up we're all good ha. Tbh I think Perisic can do a good job even though hes not a player I would want to sign

Has Jose ever signed a bad winger? I can't remember any. Maybe I forgot. If Perisic turns out bad, I think he'll be the first. At the very least, Perisic will add depth to the squad. I suspect Jose is gambling on some of his sleeping giants to wake up next season. Martial, Mikhi, Rashford, Mata, Pogba. They all need to step up their games and come to the party. One gets the feeling that those boys have more in their tanks unlike a player like Fellaini who you sense has peaked.

I find it surprising that there are no rumours surrounding Lemar from Monaco, he was just as impressive as B.Silva last season and would be a brilliant signing for both us and the Arse.
how many players can Monaco realistically let go before it becomes a bit of a farce though :lol:

Yeah I was thinking that. not the worst alternative to VVD and seems to be on the market it's the type of deal that we should do but never seem to. it's either sheer incompetence or we still think we can get VVD .

Jose's signed several flop wingers; Salah, Cuadrado, Quaresma.
Traditionally it's seen as one of his bigger weaknesses in the transfer market, while centrebacks is his most successful. Not saying Perisic will be bad though, personally I'm a fan of his

These weren't bad at all as a quality. He just wanted them as a backup for Willian, who was his preferred choice on the right at this time. Both proved their worth later on when moved to other team with regular playing time. They weren't lucky enough at their time at Chelsea with Willian doing as Jose wanted on the right.

My question was, 'has he ever signed a bad winger?' not 'has he ever had a winger flop under him?'. By no definition would anyone say that Salah, Cuadrado or even Quaresma are bad wide men.

Spot on mate.

This is still not a solid argument against the prospects of Mbappe.
It wasn't meant to be, tbh. Just confirmation of Sanches' utterly shit season with us. ;)
Mbappe will surely be great for any club big or small.

How can Martinez have a medical next week and we didn't even hear a single link about him all the summer ? It doesn't make any sense. No club can keep a secret like this from the media all this time.

Whilst I'm not convinced about this rumour being true, Bernardo Silva was signed sealed and delivered with about two hours notice.

Fair enough, I misunderstood your point.

No problem mate.

You did make a good point about wingers seeming like Jose's weakness. But he also seems to have done well with some good wingers he met in the teams he managed and a few he bought. Duff was good. Roben was great. Joe Cole played brilliantly from the wings. Di Maria was good. Callejon was also very decent. And of course, Cristiano was superb. I think he also focuses on having full backs who can move forward and attack. This is usually helps to fulfill his wing play needs.
