Not sure about that. DDG has plenty of reason to stay focused and earn the starting spot on the national team. If he stays, he plays and that's to our benefit in the short-term.

I see it in a totally different way. It doesn´t matter if he is a top keeper or not, as didn´t matter with Kroos. The important issue for me is the length of the contract. Besides United wanted Ramos in the deal and didn´t accept the talks until he had renewed (last week). I agree that Madrid should have offered 35/40 weeks ago or decide to leave him for the next summer, but I also think that Van Gaal complicated the things, provoking the transfer when he said publicly that De Gea didn´t want to play. If he left the talks for the last days then he was pretty sure that would get Navas in return, for this I see it as a position of pride and not much about money.
Real Madrid are ultimately the party who could have made this much easier for all involved and they ultimately are the ones responsible for this unsatisfying situation. United were acting in self-interest; Madrid were doing that also but with added ego and arrogance. Really would not have been that hard for them to offer a semi-respectable offer and close this early in the summer.
OK, so Bale or Ronaldo has a year left on his contract and we offered 20m euros. You would be happy with that?
