Yippppppeeeeeee

We simply cannot rely on ay of our strikers. I hate saying that, I really do, but it's true. RvP goes missing in games, Rooney is way too inconsistent, he always gives his all, but when he is having a bit of a dodgy patch or goal drought he tends to go on a rampage and tries to be involved in everything and that is detrimental to his striking duties. Wilson looks a great prospect but he is nowhere near ready yet.

We need at least one striker. We need at least one decent midfielder. CB is top priority too, as is right back and GK if De Gea leaves. Simply put, the squad isn't strong enough to win the Premier League let alone even compete in the Champions League. The only plus is LvG knows this and we now just have to trust him (and Woody) to ensure they sort it out.
He's in third of our all time scoring list. If one thing Rooney is, he's consistently can score goals. For the second part of your statement, he used to be like that under Fergie, but he's not anymore. He conserve his energy better and works much more in the final third. The only time I've seen him 'tries to be involved in everything' is when van Gaal played him in midfield. I hope Rooney will be our first choice striker in a lone striker role next season. If van Persie accepted a backup role, then it's good enough for me.

Scoring 15 league goals a season for 12 seasons or scoring 25 goals a season for 5 seasons? Records mean nothing. Ronaldo would have doubled Charlton's record by now had he stayed.

Barca fans on twitter seem convinced he's reliable. Seems like he declined Barca because he didn't get offered enough money.

Why stopped at league goals? And why records means nothing? You'd think Ronaldo would score 600 goals by now had he stayed?

I'd take an old yet decent Dani Alves for a season or two if it means our attention (and money) is spent on other areas. I'd much rather paper over the cracks at right back for a later date than any other position.

It's funny how Bayern and Barca both have this "he wanted too much money" narrative with Gundogan, like it's impossible that maybe, just maybe, he actually wanted to sign for a different club than those 2.

Newcastle Chronicle: Charlie Austin is Newcastle's priority target this summer. They're also interested in Saido Berahino and Van Ginkel.

Southampton should go for him. Pure poacher. They're pragmatic in their team set up so should be a good fit.

Barca will only sign gundogan if they can't sign pogba. They're calling the shots...

He's got a point though. If Rooney is our main striker next season, we'll be woefully short of goals, again. We might do well in the cups, but we'll fall short in the league.

Hopefully we'll show him the colour of our money. I've still got pipe dreams of him, Schneiderlin and Herrera turning out for us in a midfield three next season.

Barcelona won't be signing anyone because they have a TRANSFER BAN.

Doesn't seem to have stopped them from signing Vidal (Aleix). They'll either loan the player out or just not play them until January; no big deal. I'm guessing most players would happily give up a few month's playing time in exchange for joining the best team in the world at the moment.

From Barca Forum:

Alfredo Martinez and Onda cero announcing that Gundogan won't sign for Barcelona.

All in for Pogba then ?

Alfredo Martinez almost always got his sources right.

All in for Pogba/Kovacic then I guess.

Unless they find the Douglas of the CM or something.

Bartomeu already said he is our top target

Nah, I reckon Gundogan will be swung by the fact that we've never wavered in wanting him here as our first choice midfield addition. Barca may be an enticing destination, but would a player of that calibre really like knowing that he's the fall back option?

LvG has had faith in him since the beginning*. In Spain, he'd be the consolation prize who nobody truly believed in. That would be a massive factor for me. Especially if Barca are likely to be back in for Pogba next summer should they fail to get him in this window.

*Assuming reports are true.

Our short of goals last season has little to do with Rooney ability as a goalscorer, the team hardly created chances. In a team with a decent functioning midfield, there's no reason why he can't be our first choice striker.

Turkish media DHA are reporting that Gundogan wants £170,000-a-week wages and that's scared Barca away as they're not prepared to pay him that much.

We wont win the title with Rooney lead doens't matter if we are creative or not. We never have and i can't see that changing.

High wages for a player who had a serious injury last year?

We are getting him.

We don't need a goalscoring striker in LVG team. With goalscoring widemen like Memphis and maybe Bale or Fellipe Anderson on the other side, all he needs to do is knit them together, create space for them to run into and bring the midfield into play.
Rooney is more than good enough to do that. It's not as if he doesn't score any goals ffs.

We'll see, but we were very close to win the league the last time Rooney played upfront all season. It all went downhill when he was injured.

Every top team needs a goal scoring striker. I also think people should forget about signing Bale this summer. Would be very shocked if he left

We played far better this season with Rooney leading the attack, it was when he was put into midfield that he became mediocre.

He scored 4 goals in 14 when playing as our number 9 this season.
He still scored 14 league goals despite playing in several positions this season, many of which were in midfield or as one of a top two. You don't need stats to know that as a team we played much better when he was played in his natural position.

If I make time, I will make a compilation of all the goalscoring opportunities lost because Rooney has a bad touch or can't dribble past 1 opponent. I think it will be very long. You can easily spot many of these just watching Mata and Herrera compilations for this season.
