Was widely reported Chelsea were in for him earlier in summer.
That cooled but Pedro must has always informed them that he would sign if opportunity rose.
We shown an interest but if you remember LVG's conference from a week or so back he said 'ask Pedro it's a process'
Chelsea have started poorly and have reacted by going back in for him.
Utd drop interest because LVG realised we were never his first choice and did not want a repeat of Di Maria?

Sum it up?
Sounds believable. We don't want another di Maria situation, where a player arrives at his second choice club, and doesn't perform

The next press conference is going to be VERY interesting.

100% agree if indeed that is the case.

I'm disappointed but if we can get a good forward in before the deadline then I'd be happy with that. I really wonder if the form of Rooney has made van Gaal switch his attentions.

I hope so

Now, where will Pedro play exactly? They are quite filled with players that can play on the wings, no? William, Hazard, Cuadrado, even Oscar. If he's looking, and being assured of playing time, isn't Chelsea a strange choice?

Not really..."Who said we were interested in Pedro? You the media have said this. I told if we signed him I would let you know. We did not sign him. We are happy with our players."

Perfect! That is pretty much exactly how it's going to go down

For me, that's another major feck-up by our higher-ups in the football/transfer department.

Unless Van Gaal and Woodward can come up with someone else before the window is shut, both should be given a big F.U. for this fiasco.

Trying to save face is something Moyes would be keen to do - LvG doesn't care that much what people think of him or his methods - he has absolute certainty in what he chooses to do.

LvG said a month ago that the surprise player we were buying hadn't been mentioned in the press. Pedro had been. It wouldn't be surprising if we still have a signing up our sleeves.

A part of me thinks he just made that up to confuse the media.

Even if Rooney's form is a major topic for concern, that sure didn't take away the fact that Pedro would have been in a position to provide the same kind of goalscoring punch Memphis is working to provide on the opposite flank.

Not really sure what to think:
- Doubt we were put off by a few million and would let the deal drag on/hijacked because of it
- But then why did Woodward fly out to Barcelona and why were we linked all this time

Which really only leaves the fact that we simply were closing in on him and Chelsea swooped in. I can't think of another explanation..

I don't think he's the type to play games with the media. He's a pretty forthright individual. He can't be bothered to hide his antipathy for the press, but that's not the same thing as deliberately giving them red herrings.

Probably another load of rubbish that LVG loves to dump on the media and nothing else.

We might be looking for a number 10. As crazy as it sounds but with Mata being used on the wing, Memphis obviously being better on the wing and Rooney playing the lone striker, we only have Januzaj there. He is still young and might not be able (or good enough, although eh impressed me so far) to be a fix starter for that United team.
That's were the Müller rumours all make much more sense (position wise, not as far as likeliness of the tranfer to ever happen is concerned). Not sure there are many good ones out there though.

I just don't believe Woodward would fly out on Monday and then LVG just change his mind the next day. Especially when Chelsea come in for him on that day.

That is literally what he would say. I won't be surprised if he says exactly this in the press conference.

I can't recall any other time when he's lied to the press. Yes, he hates the media. But I don't think he makes things up to befuddle them. He's more likely to just keep schtum and call them twats.

Pedro and Hazards pace behind Costa with Fabregas putting it on a plate for them.

Well done LVG

Yeh strikes me that Pedro has just picked Chelsea instead and wasn't keen on joining us for whatever reason.

Maybe he preferred Chelsea?

I do agree that their attack looks tasty and far superior to ours, though.

It's probably as simple as Barca/Pedro dragging this out to see what other (i.e higher) offers came in...and the London factor remains a problem for non-London clubs.

It's Hazard all over again. This deal actually made sense and pretty cheap. I don't believe we pulled out because we actually doo need a speedy winger. If we did pull out of a deal then it's an idiotic decision. But really Chelsea just took Pedro away from us. Cuadrado will probably go out on loan somewhere.

another masterpiece from Leicester. Last season with Cambiasso, this season with Inler.....

We don't know the full story but thoroughly pissed off as I think Pedro would have been great for us.

I will reserve judgment until the 2nd September on our dealings this summer, so far we have made some excellent additions and if the Pedro rumours were not circling then this would not matter in the scheme of things.

However, should we not sign any other attacking players then that is a big problem in my view.

Maybe LvG's treatment of Valdés made him reconsider.
Nah I doubt it, he's still in a squad with Iniesta who will undoubtedly speak highly of him, not to mention Xavi who will have as well. For the record I think Louis’ treatment of Valdes was totally justified, gave him the chance to recover from injury when he didn't have a club, gave him a contract on top of that and then gave him a chance to show his qualities to prospective clubs even after they'd fallen out.

I don't find it hard to believe Mourinho may have convinced him. For all his faults he is great at getting players onside and at making them feel important the way Sir Alex used to do.

After watching us take so long about things I don't think Pedro would take much convincing.
