So Valencia demanded €50m when we were apparently interested but now we are not the price has gone down to €40m!

40mill and a defender that city paid at least 30mill for only last year in Mangala, plus his extras in wages. It is actually a pretty good deal for Valencia. City getting Otamendi is also good business but they are paying a lot for him.

Is that Mangala done then? Crazy amount of money spent to be shipped on loan one year later.

Think it's a bit strange they're signing Otamendi and loaning Mangala. Kompany + Otamendi is a strong partnership but they're both not the quickest. Thought Mangala was very good in the first two games of the season. Odd move on City's part IMO.

Don't agree. Kompany and Otamendi are both pretty quick for centre backs. Otamendi brings much more experience, Mangala gets a year at a good side in Valencia and they pay 10m euros less. Sadly, a very clever deal IMO.

Pretty risky by LVG by not getting a defender in. Hopefully this Blind and Smalling partnership really works out.

That's a brilliant deal for Valencia. They get 40 million euros for a 27 year old with only one top season behind him + a ready made replacement for him.

With Madrid signing Kovacic, Juve could try to move for Isco again.

Tbh if Blind can continue playing like he has, which I think he will, then there's no need to pay €40M for Otamendi and especially so with LvG wanting a left and right footed to play on the "right" side. Would hate to see Smalling on the bench.

We have Rojo, Blind & Blackett for the left centre back spot and Smalling, Jones and McNair for the right. Evans obvious have no place in the team anymore.

All in all, we're fine. Spend money on a quality striker if the right one is available (Higuain?), Pedro and a goalkeeper if De Gea goes. That would make our business in this window amazing.

Only for a season though.

Yeah, but they won't have to worry about replacing him this season after already spending big money on Andre Gomes, Negredo and Rodrigo. It's a very good deal for Valencia. I don't really get why City are getting rid of Mangala after a single season in England and signing a player who hasn't played in the league before. For all we know it could take Otamendi some time to get to know the league and it could cost City dearly. Mangala has a full season in England behind his back and he could have had a much better season at City this year.

No chance of Higuain, Napoli already said he'd only go for his clause (€90m).

Agree totally that striker/attackers way more important than signing a defender (,) though.

I'd forgotten about De Bruyne. City are really on a spending spree with him, Otamendi and Sterling! Good old FFP eh?

Damn them.....

Edit: Just saw someone suggested that Higuain and Pedro would make it a great window :O We get Higuain while City get De Bruyne and Otamendi and that'd be amazing? I like Pedro, but we'd need someone a LOT better than Higuain to compete after this spree.
