Convincing argument. Go back and look at all the people who wanted no part of Otamendi when we were after Ramos. And now look at all the fellatio he is getting because Twitter says he is going to City. Pathetic. If its another club the player shits diamonds, if its with us he is shite.

I wasn't one of them, I thought both would be good signings and would have welcomed either. Now we aren't getting either and with the current state of our centre back options it's hard not to be a tad bit disappointed.

Why dont you phone the fecking club and tell them how to do their jobs then. Super scout that you are.

Because they've being doing a great job recently haven't they? Says something about the process if armchair fans are better at spotting talent than people paid to do it.

Yep. I don't know why we're not interested. Our transfer policy is bewildering at times. United fans went out about Silva for years, we knew so why didn't the club? We need a new CB and there's a world class player available and we're not interested, WHY? He'll go to City and be brilliant while we're sat here wondering if Phil Jones will ever come good.
Being £500 million in debt and still winning the league most years at the time might have had something to do us not wanting to go out and spend, spend, spend.

He's not we want and arguably not what we need either.

Van Gaal clearly wants a ball playing centre half, and preferably a left footed one at that.

I find it hard to disagree with that, Smalling's an excellent defender but he needs someone alongside him who can play football.

He's also probably not as good as people on here are making out, when we first were interested around January (apparently) people were complaining, it's only because of familiarity with the name he's so popular now.
I don't necessarily disagree with much of that, but that player LVG wants doesn't seem to be available, and Otamendi is the best CB up for grabs which is a position we need to improve.

He's expensive, mind.

Don't understand all the pant wetting over Otamendi. He's good, but clearly not that good. Our style clearly calls for a ball playing CB and he's certainy not that. He'd be a Smalling replacement if anything and I'd prefer to keep Smalling.

Show me where I said he should be first choice, it shouldn't be that hard for you to do, should it? Just admit you're talking bollocks and we can move on.

I was saying that Evans has been nowhere near as bad as some say on here, now, back on topic, show me this post I made.

If it weren't you then maybe it was someone else for which I apologise. Fact remains though Nicolas Otamendi would have been a good signing to partner Chris Smalling as an experienced ball playing defender.

I don't really get why we were never interested in him.
Same - it is an odd one indeed. Surely we would be favourites to sign him if we were interested. I would say that it could be were in for another option but there really isn't any other/ better options available. Perhaps the club don't want to pay the fee being touted.

Clearly not that good he is going to a team that is fighting on all fronts to win things? Makes sense.

our worst cb by a margin.

I really want what you're smoking. Clearly shown he is no longer utd quality, even when talking backup paddy has shown he is better.

We still made high profile signings if the quality was there. Spent £30m on Berbatov when we didn't even need him, even. But I supported that choice because you can never have too many good players.

Get a fecking grip. We are Manchester United and we have won the title 20 fecking times. Evans loves our club and you cant buy that. Let Otamendi go to that small club who can't fecking fill their stadium in midweek even if it was free entrance. GGMU

Quite.

But I agree with the concept of not buying players for the sake of buying.

You're absolutely deluded if you think that.

Really? So a fit Carrick and Schneiderlin mean absolutely feck all to you? Do you know how football works?

I know enough to notice the difference between defenders and midfielders... Our strengthening in midfield is of course going to have a baring on how we do defensively but we still can't trust our centre back options to have an injury free, superb season.

Not always the best idea to buy a high cost CB after one good season. City paid £42M for Mangala and one year on, he's being sent out on loan

It helps the defensive unit. We were like a motorway in CM most of last year. ANY CB even the current worlds greatest CB Otamendi would have struggled last season. Injuries cannot be helped, you cant buy a player because of his lack of injuries

Evans, Brackett shouldn't be on anyone books as central defenders in a team fighting for league's championship.

That leaves us with Smalling, Rojo, McNair (a kid who won't start for any other top team), Jones (who hasn't progressed and seem to always be on the treatment table) and our new found specialist "left footed" Blind.

I think LvG is making a huge mistake.

It seems to me Otamendi is bigger in the eyes of many cause we were interested and now we're loosing him to City. Well not loosing him cause we werent interested but its like he's the new Maldini.

Only after Ramos wasnt coming here, he was dirt when Ramos was our CB target. Now he is the dogs wotsits because he is going to the Emptyhad.

Yeah, well they disagree with the shite posted on here, some of which you are guilty so this doesnt surprise me
Losing out on otamendi is what it is.

It's not detrimental but he would of made us better, you mocking people for showing concerns that he's going to a direct rival is more muppet like than anything.

Like I said the business we've done in midfield will make us more solid as a defensive unit but it still helps to have top quality defenders in place for when the midfield is gotten by and for me a partnership between Smalling and Otamendi would be a better choice than Smalling and Blind/Evans/Jones.

Exact same conversation happened last year with Mangala. Otamendi, who may be good, has only had one good season in La Liga. LVG and his scouts who have been to watch him in person I am sure disagree with the transfer geniuses on redcafe.

Don't get involved in a conversation you have no idea about, just makes you look silly.

You dont know this, btw Otamendi is right footed. So it would be Otamendi - Rojo who you obviously dont rate either.

Surprised they're playing Mangala against City if they've agreed to let him go out on loan.

I find this mindset baffling and it's pretty widespread too. Short memories.

Evans was twice the player McNair or Blackett are at their age and you don't just lose ability, in fact he improved significantly and became a regular in 3 title winning sides. He had a very poor season last year but that doesn't make him shit - he was justifiably a candidate for the captaincy before Rooney got it and has struggled with niggling injuries ever since. Whether we sell him or not time will prove that he's far from shit and given that he's still just 27 I think we'd be a bit mental to throw him on the scrap heap.
