I agree that otamendi was very good last season but we don't really need a new CB especially for that price. We have been good in defence. I think people underestimate Blind because of his pace. Will he make mistake during the season? Sure he will but that is also applicable to every player. Can anyone be sure otamendi will step right up? I think we do have enough defenders and now with our DMs we should ideally be better as our first 2 games proved.

Regarding otamendi maybe the fact that his agent is from mendes' agency may have played a part in us not wanting him too. Maybe we are upset with mendes over the de gea situation.
 
We need Pedro more than Otamendi imo. Don't forget we still have Rojo and Evans and McNair as well who's going to need games to develop

Yep, there's no way around it. I am liking this Smalling-Blind partnership, but not sure that is really the next great thing, and regardless of that, Otamendi is better than any of them.

Yes the market is inflated but its not so bad that a CB is 40-50 million. Sterling, a young, English attacker went for 49 mil to a team that Liverpool battling with for a European spot.

Please don't quote players like Luiz as an example as we all know that deal was fishy, and a one-off. No other sane team would have paid 50 million for David fecking Luiz
 
Can we just sell evans then and let mcnair get ahead of him. That makes up for no cb at least.
 
city don't NEED otamendi either but he makes them better, exact same situation applies to UTD BUT we have been looking more solid. Yet to be really tested though.
 
I think we are making a huge fecking mistake in not signing Ottamendi, same as when we let City get Silva and Aguero

Yep. I don't know why we're not interested. Our transfer policy is bewildering at times. United fans went out about Silva for years, we knew so why didn't the club? We need a new CB and there's a world class player available and we're not interested, WHY? He'll go to City and be brilliant while we're sat here wondering if Phil Jones will ever come good.

He's not we want and arguably not what we need either.

Van Gaal clearly wants a ball playing centre half, and preferably a left footed one at that.

I find it hard to disagree with that, Smalling's an excellent defender but he needs someone alongside him who can play football.

He's also probably not as good as people on here are making out, when we first were interested around January (apparently) people were complaining, it's only because of familiarity with the name he's so popular now.

Show me where I said he should be first choice, it shouldn't be that hard for you to do, should it? Just admit you're talking bollocks and we can move on.

I was saying that Evans has been nowhere near as bad as some say on here, now, back on topic, show me this post I made.
 
Though it was just a youtube video someone posted few days ago, Otamendi looked very good in that. Looks like an upgrade on Mangala. That said, I am not too worried we are not going for him as it seems LvG is happy with defenders we have got and United apparently always denied being interested in Otamendi. To me, we look more solid at back now and with the added quality protection in midfield, we are OK. If we add 2 players upfront..Pedro and someone else, I will be happier.
