Well it's clear he wants to move back to Madrid and is choosing the best team in Madrid to play for, that's him wanting to go home, unless you think Madrid is offering him more money or he feels he has the best chance of trophies at a club that has won one league championship in seven seasons?
He is choosing the best team to play for in Madrid, if he wants to move back home and Real offer him considerably more money than Athletico as well as being the better team, why would he go to Athletico?
If I want a job in New York then I will look for the company that offers me the best deal in New York, that's kind of normal.
It is possible his primary motive for the transfer is not to move back home but because to play for Real has been his boyhood dream, only De Gea can clear this up though.

A quick google search puts Muller's salary at 5m euros, that's £3.55m pounds or £69k per week, surely that's his old contract, he signed a new one at the end of 2013 - 2014 season. Does anybody know how much Muller earns? The only reason I could see him leaving Bayern is if United offer to double his wages or something.

That's always a possibility but I think the club would be prepared to offer him anything he wants to stay! Could you imagine the uproar from the bayern fans. I don't see this happening at all but it's interesting nevertheless, no smoke without fire as they say.
This place will rage like never before if he joins City given our defences needs and his availability.

Personally I'm interested in how Blind turns out, the need in our defense isn't as great as it was perceived to be.
I know I'm in the very tiny minority, but I don't want him at all and said so from the very beginning, I'm not convinced of the back of one season for that kind of £. LVG seems to build from the back and while I admit I remain sceptical, it looks like the signing of Schneiderlin has done a world of good to our defence. Key is keeping Smalling and the full-backs fit, which I admit is a tough ask over the course of the season.

Otamendi will be superb at City. By all accounts we just aren't interested, which is frustrating. A left sided centre half, genuinely available, at a perfect age.

Otamendi will be a great signing for City. Not sure why they need another defender though. They've already got Kompany, Mangala, Demichelis, Denayer.
I still think that central defense isn't a priority, we need to strengthen our attack.

If it's not Otamendi (for reasons only United and Van Gaal know), I just hope we bid a lot higher for Stones considering how consistently unfit Jones is and how Evans is being pushed towards the exit door.
So if Otamendi moves to City, what is their CB pairing?
Letting an established international centre back join a rival whilst we take a gamble on a guy who isn't a natural centre back in the hope he might come good is a risk we should avoid taking.
