RVP was on 250K according to most reports wasnt he, and Di Maria on £200k?
Figures vary across whichever rag is sensationalising at a particular time, but I think the more reliable reports had him around £200k a week, maybe £225k, but not equal to Rooney who was on £250k at the time RVP signed (now he is on more, though the deal is structured differently).

Di Maria was rumoured to be around the same as Mata - £170k-£180k. I remember being surprised he wasn't over £200k when he signed given the transfer fee.

At the time RVP was signed it was reported he was on £250 k per wk, but there was also mention of a £10 million loyalty bonus paid throughout his contract, I'd take that as £2.5 million paid equally per year, that combined makes it £300 k per wk, which I'd doubt, but I reckon £250 k including this bonus would be about right.

Ahh.. that does sound more realistic (the £250k including the bonus part).

Pedro will have more of an instant impact than Özil, that I'm quite sure about.

no way he's better, or will be better than Sanchez.

as for us saving shitloads and can afford a marquee player - the problem is not affording it, it's attracting said marquee player in the first place. they all tend to play for the best teams already.

Yeah, he was superb for his first 5 games! Di Maria - esque. Let's hope Pedro manages a bit more ...

For all the criticism Ozil got, he was still better than Di Maria in his first season. ADM's form fell off a cliff and drowned.

Why is it that so many places (papers, websites, Skysport News etc), are saying that we payed £30m for Depay?

And, wasn't the final price for di Maria £47.4m (inc.£3m for tapping up our player)?

I don't know about Angel di Maria, transfermarkt put Depay at £19.25m but that will rise by £3m or something like that with the clauses probably however they didn't list that, as for the £30m figure, that's because sports journalism in this country can't work out the difference between euros and pounds.

He commentates on the Spanish football for Sky, so that's an interesting comment.

Isn't that like expecting Andy Townsend being in the know?

Thanks man!

Appreciate it, if it's any comfort my scouse mate is now a bit flustered and arguing that Firmino is "worth the extra dosh" when apparently he was cheaper this morning.. Bizarre I know.

You can tell him that firmino doesn't have 2 World Cup goals, and has less goals+assists for the last 2 seasons. Eredivisie may be less than bundesliga in quality but bundesliga players don't succeed here as much as Dutch players. Schurle kagawa examples.

I did such fights on Twitter :p

Not really. He had 9 assists and 5 goals. Almost the same as di Maria. Ozil's impact was that he looked to have re invigorated arsenal as he was their first world class player since rvp left and the first to join them in 10 years or so

I really dont buy into the whole idea that we need a galatico signing to win the league..they are lots of good players in the league currently, but none that are Ronaldo or Suarez good to single handedly lead their teams..I think if we built a solid team, played players in their corect positions and adapted our play more to suit the bus-parking we face, then we would do so much better.

I think we should focus on signing players that are on the cusp of stardom. Good players that will improve when playing with better players too. Signings such as Keane to us,Neymar to Barca , Douglas Costa to Bayern recently. Signing Galaticos that prefer to play for other clubs(like Bale and Di Maria ) may not work.

And we dont need a big name player to improve our brand. The Man United brand is arguably the biggest in sport, and a player doing well here can be become a megastar. Is it any coincidence that the two most marketable players in the last 20 years made their names at Man United?
