I'd be genuinely gutted if we didn't sign him after all the build up. Even if we signed Reus instead.

It was the story I was referring to. Chasing a a giant whale that Ahab never caught and eventually got himself killed. Just like Ed chasing his monster, postponing Pedro, and when he doesn't catch his whale, a deal for Pedro would have sailed.
