It's never as simple as that though. It's likely Ramos's preferred choice was for Madrid to offer him a new contract, one that he feels he deserves. If they were unwilling to do that, he would be open to joining United. If Madrid called his bluff, so to speak, it could have ended up in a result that neither party particularly desired.
Calling somebody's bluff would be Madrid believing Ramos would not try to force a move if they refused to offer him an improved contract and saying 'go ahead'
A bluff is an empty threat. Madrid didn't do this

Edit I'm not commentating on the transfer, it's balague nonsense tweet when trying to be smug

Am I the only one here who thinks this is bullshit? Is this even worthy of posting?
Maybe so but they're pretty much spot on with Barca stuff. Another tweet also mentions he'll only leave for United but can't link it up.

But that's the point, Madrid would have been stupid to call his 'bluff' because in doing so they could have pissed off Ramos and made him leave when neither they nor Ramos actually wanted that.

30M is a lot to Italian clubs, especially for a 29-year-old. The situation with Negredo is probably in their minds too and how bad a deal that was for Valencia.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, it's impossible to fault Roma really, they're simply doing what is best for themselves, but every time I read City are trying to sell to an Italian club the negotiations are always protracted affairs.

RAC1 are reliable.

They maybe reliable but that particular tweet is bullshit. What do the base us coming in with a bid of 15 and willing to pay 30-32. Why would anyone know that? Why bid 15 then when Barca knows we're willing to spend more? Am I being illogical here?

I've been present in transfer negotiations and they're fecking airtight till after its done. A lot of the stuff I read is highly speculative and innacurate most of the time but this takes the biscuit that's why I'm commenting on it!

We're arguing the same point lol,we're agreeing they haven't called his bluff
Let's move on!

Could calling his bluff mean they're not going to give him a new contract or sell him.
Makes slightly more sense even if its still a crap use of the term

Maybe, he has to see out his contract, they won't renew it and he will be older and won't get the kind of contract we could give him now. Or they might say if we have to wait until next year for DDG so we get him for nothing, you have to wait as well and we get some money off Manchester United for you, quids in. Of course we might just go and sign somebody else.

I can't really see the point when it's obvious LvG still demands the CB's bring the ball out, he's as poor at it as Jones and Smalling so why buy another?
The problem is most fans are blinded by the excitement of a new signing and Ed seems sometimes that he acts like a fan or is desperate to appease to them. Otamendi is Di Maria all over as far as I am concerned. He had one great season, does not fit the profile of what we do and how we play and will cost a ridiculous amount. But just because there is the established narrative that our defence is the worst thing that has ever existed, he somehow became the perfect transfer target.

We need a new CB though,if not Otamendi then who?

I agree and I don't even dislike Otamendi and I am sick and tired of the Ramos and Real soap opera, I would gladly never see us have anything to do with that club again. However LvG is unrelenting in his view of how a CB must play and I think it affects Smalling in particular who always looks awkward trying to play the ball out smoothly, it's not in his sklllset. If we were willing to defend in the Chelsea manner then sure, Otamendi would be a decent, if overpriced, option that fits the ethos, but for us it is yet another square peg in a round hole as shown by the fact he'd even play Blind as a CB just to have a left footer that can pass in there.
