Stands a chance, since it's his son.I don't like this obsession with galacticos suddenly. If a galactico is like ADM, i'd rather have a player with the right attitude.
Also, does that guy look like Malcolm Glazer.

He's his son Avi Glazer.

It is a silly thing indeed, but I don't think Van Gaal meant that. From the examples he gave, it sounds like he is talking about players who can change games on their own. There are world class players and there are game changers. I can only count 7 or 8 players in world football at the moment but he has a point in that all the top teams had someone in there who had that ability to win a game. Before the transfer window, I thought it makes a bigger difference to get someone like that even if it was at the expense of fixing the RB, CB or midfield positions and I still think so but unfortunately, I don't think we can get anyone at the moment at least so we just have to hope Depay or Rooney or somebody else emerges as a game changer.I don't like this obsession with galacticos suddenly. He's right though. The term galacitco is misleading. But with Di Maria leaving we badly need a matchwinner. Rooney atm looks like a freaking pub players and god knows how long it takes him to get running. Depay is still a work in process. The very best teams out there do have those kind of players to make the difference.

I get the sense that him name dropping Ronaldo and then adding that we can't/won't pay for him is intentional misdirection, given all the unlimited budget talk in the past.
I think Nasri and Zidane (if he wasn't retired) would qualify to play for Algeria too.
Van Gaal is saying what I have been saying - we need a world class attacker to compete at the very top - not a Pedro. Unfortunately he seems to be implying that we can't afford one!
Come on, I'm sure he doesn't rate him alongside Messi, Hazard, Aguero, etc - nobody doesHow do you know how highly LVG rates Pedro?
I don't see any need to go out and buy another good or even great player at the moment. We have a pretty solid looking squad and if it can't compete for the league, then we have much bigger problems. That is why the only business I think we should be doing from on is if a "game changer" becomes available as that would make a real difference. Look at Barcelona last year, everybody kept saying they needed to strengthen the defence, GK and midfield. They went out and plugged those holes with what I would call unspectacular signings but they saved up their money for that "game changer" despite already having two in their squad.Yeah you're right. I think it's going to be hard to get players like that in now though. From the names we've been linked to is it only Muller, Bale, Ronaldo, Lewandowski that fulfil that criteria? If so, we've probably got no chance of landing any of those players. As you say @Theonas, we're just going to have to hope one of ours surprises us a la Harry Kane in 2014/15 for Spurs. I so wish we had a player who could just break onto the scene like this. Hopefully Depay, Januzaj, Pereira... or all 3!
He also seems to be dropping subtle hints that he won't stick around unless the club stumps up the cash for such a 'Gaalactio' - he wants to win top trophies and knows that he can't do that without a Ronaldo type player

If you read the interview he actually says that there is a difference between what Ronaldo's club want for him and what United want to pay. He doesn't actually say that we can't afford him.

Louis van Gaal says #MUFC cannot afford to sign Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo but need to sign "a Galactico". [Mirror]
But it sounds more like he is managing our expectations...I may be putting to much faith in our Louis, but surely a manager with his experience wouldnt say "we need a star" or words to that effect if he wasnt absolutely certain we were capable of bringing one in before September? Seems like a quote you'd only say if you were pre-empting something.
How have you read that? I mean where's that hint?He also seems to be dropping subtle hints that he won't stick around unless the club stumps up the cash for such a 'Gaalactio' - he wants to win top trophies and knows that he can't do that without a Ronaldo type player
Hopefully it will be a player who can play good in more than one position. You need to manage a "Galactico" as well Louis. Manage their tantrums once in a while, also have a clue as where to play them.
Actually, not even very subtle...How have you read that? I mean where's that hint?
I would never class a defender as that. Plus, he is talking about attacking, creative playersWould Ramos class as a galactico?
Shamoon! Teehee!
Read one of the articles. He specifically is on about a match winner. Ramos wouldn't count.Would Ramos class as a galactico?

“But normally I have said to my wife that after 55 years I quit. And I am still in business and in two weeks time I will be 64. I can walk away from it.
“I have already taken two sabbaticals in my career. They were not for a year on either occasions but it was very nice. And it was not cats and dogs with my wife. And I have a paradise in Portugal. So I can happily walk away from football and do other things.”
So that means he'll leave United if we dont buy a gaalactico..?Actually, not even very subtle...

I dunno, he also talks about possibly extending but it does seem a bit like a veiled threat when he talks about being able to 'walk away' in the same breath as saying that we lack top class attacking talent. So that means he'll leave United if we dont buy a gaalactico..?
That's a bit Moyes-esque tbf And the whole interview in general as well.“Chelsea have Eden Hazard, he can always make goals,” said Van Gaal.
“Manchester City have Aguero, it’s the same type. Barcelona have Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez. We, as Manchester United, have to compete with these clubs. So we have to look also for these kind of players.
“When it is possible to buy, for a reasonable price, players from that level, we shall do that, because they are better.
“So I think with Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian, we are better than last year.
“But we have to be much better and we can use much more creativity.
“And so we have to compare. Ashley Young had a fantastic season last time, but he is not a Neymar, and we have to compete with that kind of class.”
Van Gaal dismissed re-signing Ronaldo, 30, as too expensive, adding: “Of course I would love it. But that’s not possible. You have Ronaldo and then you have how much Manchester United want to spend...”
