The irony is that 40 million euros is a bargain for a world class GK in this current market.

€40m is anything but a bargain for a goalkeeper, especially given De Gea's contract status. I know clubs like United and Real throw money around (United in a much more sensible way) but this is still a lot of money for a keeper.

I try and avoid getting sucked into the whole "ABU" thing, but Castles might just be one of them.

Van Gaal should start banning the times or the club should until Castles stops writing these shitty articles about us.

That's not a very accurate translation. It actually says a primary (in other words, stage one) agreement between the two clubs.

Nothing on actual monetary fees and final price.

So... exactly what Tom said then

I was chuffed when we signed him but for some reason I'm not too annoyed seeing him go as long as we get a decent option out wide.

Forget contract, consider how good he is as a player. He is worth a lot more than 40 million euros to them. We paid quite a bit for RVP despite him being in contract year, and publicly wanting out. And in the end, it was more than worth it.

With De Gea, Real would be getting a worthy successor to Casillas, a club legend. And that is worth is lot more than 40 million euros to them.

I can't help but think we've missed a trick by not asking for Marquinhos/ Verratti/ Moura in exchange: then again such deals are very rare.

Which makes me think we happy to let him go. Didn't ask for a player and let him leave at a loss.

Smells of LVG or di maria really really wanting to leave.

Why is Castles so embittered towards United? Did Wilf Zaha shag his daughter?

Because then loads of utd fans click his articles to read what he's said now. And all abu's love to read it.

Hes a WUM and you all fall for it

I know that De Gea is world class and that he's priceless to you, but you can't just forget about his contract status nor that keepers in general go for less money than outfield players?

I really, really don't know how that man has a career doing what he does. He doesn't even tone down his anti-United rhetoric to where it appears objective. It might as well be the ravings of a Bluemoon poster. Only thing missing is mention of "rag" somewhere in that article and it'd be complete.

Di Maria, Falcao & van Persie gone in one window. What's that, about £700k a week in wages saved? All 4 players we have brought in this summer wouldn't even come close to this.

In my eyes, if Di Maria wants to go, good riddance, we don't need players who aren't interested in being here, being here. We are financially stronger in the end of it, yes we took a hit on the transfer fee but could we really expect the same money back when he has a year less on his contract, a year older and had a very average season. Cut our losses and move on :)

Would you be saying the same if it was Neuer?

If we were going to do that it should have been done before we strengthened. We don't need them now, in fact they would complicate matters.

If he was in the same situation as De Gea, yes. Maybe I'm just used to the prices in Germany but for me (and the Bundesliga) €40m is an absurd amount of money for a keeper in his last year. There just aren't that many clubs who could spent that amount of money on a player let alone a goalkeeper and it's just not done in the market. World wide and especially in Germany. But I guess it might change in a few years with your TV deal and the weak euro.

I'd happily pay €40m to keep De Gea, I'm sure when push comes to shove you'd feel the same about Neuer.

Of course I would. But I still don't see €40m as a bargain and that's all I'm trying to say.

Smells of the exchange rate not being in our favour for transfers. Considering last season he was poor and he is a year older i'd expect to take a loss. The exchange rate on this transfer makes it seem worse, but i think its a fair price for a player who doesn't want to stay and who was kept out of the team by Young.

None of that looked frosty, more like awkward "I don't want to be here for this millionth sponsor presentation shite" look.

Im not reading the Castles article. Its exactly what he wants, to rage the United fans and Unite (ha!) the other teams fans.

To be fair, he looked right at the first guy he was shaking hands with just just fine. He turned his head entirely when shaking Perez' hand, and then when Perez small-talked him, Ramos acted as if he wasn't even there.

I think Perez was just telling them were to linep/stand. However you're right about when he shakes his hand etc
