If we sold ADM for £45m and without getting Cavani then I have lost all respect for Woody/LVG with our transfer dealings when it comes to selling.
Why exactly? Most don't rate Cavani on here and we all know he is not going to come to us without a guarantee for a starter. As for Di Maria, he was a bench warmer for us who doesn't want to stay and we're still getting good money for him. The argument that he is potentially world class doesn't wash either as he only fulfilled that potential for about 6 months in his entire career.

In 2006, we sold RvN for good money without replacing him and went on to win 3 PL titles and a CL. I am not saying it will happen again of course but judging our dealings based on this transaction is a bit odd IMO.

Why ? We don't need Cavani and we'd be breaking even on the AdM sale from last summer.

We are making approx €15m loss on him plus it would've made sense if we held out for more knowing how desperate psg are for ADM.

So they've spent weeks telling us that they've agreed terms with Di Maria and just need to agree a fee with United.

Now they say a fee is agreed and they just need to agree terms with Di Maria.

Obviously they wouldn't make stuff up.

We write off transfer fees over the years of contract. So if we signed a 5 year deal for £60m we write off £12m anyway. It's sunk cost. So as per United accounts, his value is £48m probably

No we're not. We only paid them 45 last year with the rest contingent on appearances/success etc. We are thus more or less breaking even.

That's a ridiculous fee, we've made ourselves look weak with this deal.

The fee we paid was a little more ridiculous. Just because we did it, doesn't mean everyone should follow suit. It's a fine fee considering we overpaid (though part of that fee could be add ons), and the crappy season he's had

Selling him for that price shows that lvg was more than happy to let him go.

smh weak.

Exactly! I wonder if Liverpool managed to get 25m for Carroll if it would be considered a ridiculous fee just because it would have been a loss for them. I am obviously not saying Carroll is at the same level as Di Maria but just because you overpay for someone, doesn't mean you're entitled to get your money back for him regardless of said someone's performances.

I'll be gutted if and when he does go. Think he's got a lot left to offer us.

And those claiming we're 'weak' for the selling price, it's largely down to the weakness of the euro versus the pound.

€66m is probably a fair fee.

Judging by a single year is harsh but to be honest we've done badly recently holding onto players far too long when they are not performing. LVG is cut throat if this goes through. I'd prefer we kept him though.

But what are the terms of us having to pay another 15 million pounds approximately. For all we know it could be something like 20 appearances and we have to pay them 5 million pounds. In that case this would be a loss. Also, is the 46.5 million offer all up front or with other clauses?

How is this remotely similar? Did Carroll have a cash-rich PSG drooling over him for more than a season or was he considered one of the best players in any top flight league ever in his career? The Carroll comparison is absolutely nonsense.

Bit disappointed that it didn't work out, but a year on, I'm not that bothered about him leaving.
What I saw of him last season wasn't the player I expected. Weak in midfield, doesn't suit that passing game we are playing, he is more of a turn and run player.

On the wing, it just didn't work for him either. His shooting seemed weak, he looked predictable.
We've taken a hit on him, but I'd rather sell him now, than next year after potentially another disappointing season, and his price be a lot less
