At this point, pretty much all swap can be ignored. It rarely happens in football. Also, Cavani can feck off with this guaranteed starter nonsense.
The problem is that's what every A list striker would ask for which is why it is incredibly naïve to want us to sign a world class striker and expect him to be happy to compete with Rooney. Big players have egos and they're not gonna be happy competing for a starting berth. This should be quite clear when you look at pretty much every other top side in Europe but for some reason, some of our fans still think players are just these obedient employees who will just be happy with whatever they're told regardless of their profile.

Yep, that's why it looks more likely we will use Rooney with Hernandez and Wilson backing him up for this year. Then next year when Wayne is 30, a year older and in a bit more decline, I think we will go after a suitable replacement and begin to use Wayne more sparingly.

I can't see LvG guaranteeing any player a starting place! It's just not part of his philosophy

I think what is driving this is that many are concerned about the fact Rooney will be in that role like concrete next season, and a lot don't feel he's up to it at this point, so having no top alternative will hamper any potential PL challenge..

I understand this point of view as it makes more sense even though I disagree with it. I just think Rooney is very underrated because we're too familiar with him and his off form patches. Add to that the fact that apart from 2 seasons, he never really had a concrete attacking starting spot and he did pretty well in those two seasons. I mean if the alternative was Messi, Ronaldo or even Suarez then yea of course, that's an upgrade, but I feel we tend to over hype the rest. But like I said, at least that's a logical thought, suggesting we should buy someone and let him and Rooney fight it out simply does not work in the modern game.

Yeah, there isn't another top club in football right now that carries 2 top tier #9's, instead goals are supplemented from the wide forward positions. I personally don't feel we'll win another PL until we get in a truly top class striker, but I'm just not seeing any available, we wont be upgraded with Cavani starting over Rooney for instance.

I think Hernandez will get his chance to prove himself, Louis van Gaal said last season he has no problem giving players a chance, it's just too bad he's injured.

He's joining the squad on the 25th so he must be at least close to fully recovered.

"No interest in Otamendi" is an interesting leak. I think it's more likely that there is just a big difference in valuations

Reminds me of the Vidal rumours from last year....The reports from abroad was quite strong but the noises coming out of the club was that we had no interest in him whatsoever.

Ballague said last month that we will put rumours out there to cool down Otamendi talks in an attempt to get his price down. He seemed absolutely sure that we were in for him. Not sure what to believe.

Valencia is asking for 50m€,maybe is better to wait some days to confirm the transfer while the player continues with his revolt.Maybe buying Otamendi right now United would lose strength in the negotiation Ramos-De Gea.Valencia newspapers repeated many times that he agreed with United months ago.Could Chelsea be interested as well?

Otamendi has had only one good season. Only just over a year ago he was playing for Porto, and was not even in the first 11 and Mangala was playing ahead of him. Valencia got him for pretty cheap and he's had an excellent season no doubt. But to buy him for 50 Million Euros on the back of just a single season seems silly to me.

I really cant stand that prick Martinez. He complains about teams tryin to raid, or unsettle players in his team & yet he raided Wigan when he went to Everton & tried to get more players than he got too.

Not quite the same thing, but he'd obviously been in Cleverley's ear while he was at Villa also. He didnt want him last summer, but he put a decent shift in for Villa last season & Villa were hopeful he would sign for them when he became a free agent, but Martinez obviously unsettled him & he's gone there instead..

Don't understand why he'd be fuming with Chelsea. Annoys me when managers come out with stuff like this. Sure they were never going to accept the bid but it was hardly a derisory offer either.

So i guess you wouldnt want Kane for €50m's then? :smirk:
