I think we will end up signing second rate players again. :( Why are we taking so long to sign Schneiderlin and Otamendi?

The PSG story is bullshit. The media are acting like FFP doesn't exist anymore for PSG, which is not true at all. Lazy journalism indeed. Besides, James Cooper said on Sky about a week ago that we have not intention of selling Di Maria. PSG would be wasting their time.

Indeed. The press need to drum up bullshit all the time to encourage speculation and draw viewers to their websites. That's all this is.

I think the club is too fixated on signing big names and creating a marketable side, and maybe even creating a short term solution given Van Gaal is currently only here for two more years. That was the problem in Moyes' transfer window, they were obsessed with huge names and we didn't get any.

The PSG story stems from UEFA relaxing some of the FFP rules recently and L'Equipe ran a story recently saying PSG restrictions have been lifted for this window apparently. Not sure if L'Equipe are correct on that but that's where the rumours stem from

Anyone else super confident that Di Maria will be world class for us next season? You dont turn shite over night. If we get the right base behind him, he'll be amazing for us. It'd be a huge mistake giving up on him after one season.
Fully agreed

They can relax them rules as much as they want, I doubt it will turn us into selling one of our few top class players when the squad could actually do with a few more.

It's a very limited market for top class players, it would be urgent stupid to go selling in such a market

Lagging behind who exactly, other than Arsenal signing Cech and us signing Memphis who else has signed anybody in the Big 4 (and Liverpool aren't part of the big 4)

We don't have to be lagging behind other teams... We are behind our own schedule for signings. Van Gaal wanted signings done before the pre-season.

Not only have we singed just 1 player, but there is absolutely no clarity on De Gea who is vital to the team.

He's looked world class when I've seen him play for the Argies (post world cup), so yeah, I'm quite confident we will see that side of him next year. Having him and Memphis in attack will be amazing.

Agreed. I posted that for those who seem to have missed the news that PSG might not have FFP restrictions this summer window due to relaxed rules

Funny, Jim White has just said that we're assessing our options following Real Madrids rejection of our bid for Sergio Ramos.

Fair enough. Yes, with the relaxations, they will be looking to spend big. They might actually have a crack at Ronaldo or such.

So the other teams are quite happy to leave it till later, all the teams have the same agenda , they'll all want to sign the players they target as soon as possible, in the real world it's just not that simple . On DDG, the ball is in his court, contract offer on the table, and we won't sell him for peanuts

You are correct but one could argue that we need more strenghtening than the other teams. Chelsea can play the same team as last year so they are not in much of a rush and probably want 1-2 players max, Arsenal signed Cech - a major signing for them, Liverpool signed several players already.

Anyway, we should not be looking at other teams and what they do. We have our own plan and by all indications it was to conclude signing early. It was reported and confirmed by LvG that we already had in mind even before the season was over who we need to sign.

I thought and might have been mistaken big time, that negotiations with certain players and clubs should have started before the season was over and the aim would be to have finished deals before the end of June.

I don't see what all the fuss is about, Louis van Gaal said once before he can sign a player in 24 hours.

The positions of interest to us are GK, CB, RB, CM, LW and ST.

GK - This depends on whether De Gea leaves which in turn depends on whether Real Madrid give us a respectable offer. In the event of only a low bid from them it might make more sense to keep him for another season, even if he leaves Louis van Gaal might prefer Valdes instead of signing a new goalkeeper, of course some on here will disagree with that but LvG doesn't care.

CB - Otamendi is available but it appears as though Louis van Gaal's preferred choice is Ramos, most likely that is because he fits Louis van Gaal's profile for the position. Ramos for obvious reasons is going to be a tricky signing but he will be important if we do sign him, not just because he is one of the best central defenders in the world but also he is good with the ball at his feet, this is important to our system.

It's worth the wait for Ramos but of course it is also important we monitor Otamendi's situation and I'm sure the club are doing that, if the Ramos deal appears to be off then they will change their target.

RB - It is possible we were in for Dani Alves and pursued him first, even if we weren't there aren't many top right backs available. The manager might even stick with Valencia and Rafael if he cannot find a suitable upgrade, as for his opinion of Coleman I don't know.

CM - Schneiderlin appears to be very close, once done whether this week or next he will be ready to train after he passes the medical. This may or may not be dependant on Schweinsteiger, obviously the ball is in his court, Bayern want to keep him, we want to sign him.

LW - Done.

ST - With Rooney and RVP it doesn't make sense to sign a new player, if RVP leaves then it probably will do but not first choice assuming Rooney will play that position as opposed to 10.

A lot can happen in a week, we're not in a bad position at all right now.
