I hope that we don't sell him, or at the very worst case, don't sell him for that money.

With FFP not being a problem anymore for them, we should ask for 60m pounds if they want him.

They can do one with a 60 million Euro bid. Also did I read earlier that we might sell Nani for 5? Fecking hell.

The problem when it comes to Nani is that the only clubs who can afford to pay his real transfer value and then his wages are the big clubs. Who are not interested on him.

So, we either have to sell him for small money, or partially pay his wages for the remaining of his career. We will get only 5m for him, but on the next 3 years or so he has contract with us, we'll save 15-20m in wages.

Ow yea ?
we aren't far from it.
Barca, Real and Bayern are higher in the food chain than us and alot of clubs are equally attractive destinations.
For example a player like Pogba is out of our league if you think otherwise you are deluded.

Nonsense: we should bid for any player we think will improve us; saying 'he is out of our league' just shows lack of ambition. They may choose Barca, Real or somebody else over us but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Last summer many would have said that Falcao and Di Maria were out of our league as well.

If the players has no intention to leave or the club no intention to sell we'll never get a player from those clubs simple as that. We are a level below them and most of their players are out of league and if we are after the same target at they are they are far and far more likley to sign them than we do.

If Barca and Real are tusseling for Pogba you know we stand 0% chance, trying to land such a player is a waste of time. Nothing to do with ambition it is just reality. Not until we start winning trophies again and have a team that compares to those clubs can we claim we are top dogs. In fact I think 2008 was the last year we could claim to be have been top dogs in the market. Even than we couldn't keep our top player out of the hands of Madrid so go figure.

Messi and Ronaldo would improve us aswell, should waste our timle making an offer for them ?

The French are so desperate to be noticed it's hilarious.
From getting ' special permission' from UEFA to sign Pogba to having Neymar lined up for 2016, this is after putting aside 200m to sign Messi in the same year, after signing Di Maria in 2014 and now again in 2015.
This is after they sign their transfer targets on loan with an option to buy, this way they circumvent the FFP
Now apparently having their restrictions from last year and FFP somehow doesn't apply to them anymore.
Poor little France, always trying to invite themselves to the cool kids party :(

I'll like to see your reaction if that happens.

Jezus people think CL is already in the bag but it isn't. If we show up with a team half ready because our transfers are not finalised or new players haven't had time to integrate themselves in the team we might really be in trouble.

The way the team played in the begining of the season last year is easily knocked out by a motivated team in a CL play off.

If our current squad is not good enough to qualify for CL group stage, we probably dont deserve to be there..

If signing these players is the only way we qualify for CL, we probably need more than 5 players by your logic..

Do you believe our current squad can't even make it to the group stage of UCL?!

We'll sign our players and we'll get it right.. No point in a panic buy.. Plus none of our squad has even come back to training.. We have not kicked a ball in pre season..

Relax.. We'll be fine.. It is not like the squad is full of Premier league rejects and we have just got promoted.. The team still got players like Mata, AdM, Rooney, De Gea(At the moment) or Valdes, Carrick who are world class or close to it..

We'll add what's needed.. Too early to worry..

Last summer many would have said that Falcao and Di Maria were out of our league as well.

No topclubs were after Falcao at the time and he was stuck at a club below his level at Monaco.

Di Maria wanted to leave Real or Real wanted him out, I'am still not sure which of the two it was but either way he was going to leave. We were just club putting most money on the table. Real would never to Barca, PSG couldn't afford him because of FFP and Bayern never spends such amounts on players. So we were the only possible destination again.

can you wait until they reject us until you start giving up on life?
It's bad enaugh to lose out on targets in real life, but losing imaginary targets in imaginary scenarios makes it a lot worse

Most likely Schweinsteiger, not Schneiderlin is the first choice. And most likely Hummels was the first choice, but now is Ramos, with Otamendi as backup. Same as how it looked that Bale was the first choice winger, with Depay as backup.

So, the club wants to get the first choices. But they are at big clubs too and it is difficult to sign them. So, we will wait for them quite long and/or until someone wants to get the backup choice. Same as we did for Dapay. We were prepared to wait for Bale, but when other clubs started bidding for Depay, we made a deal very fast.

I don't even know why the rush that some poster have. Say we sign Otamendi, today? What then? He still has to finish Copa America and then make his yearly holiday, and so won't join us for another few weeks. So why not wait for Ramos instead for another couple of weeks and see if we can sign him. If not, then we quickly make a deal for Otamendi. Similarily, if City bids for him then we make Madrid/Ramos a take it or leave it offer and if they don't accept, we go for Otamendi.

From the reports and common sense, it is clear that the club is waiting to get the first targets, which are top players. We can do a Liverpool and buymany average players, but that won't improve us in any way.

Very good sensible post Revan

Depends

Our MF currently doesn't work if Carrick is not fit and without a replacement for him that has had the time to integrate in the team we could struggle with the balance of our MF if he is not there fit and in form.

Our defence is not good simple as that but DDG can cover up for the mistakes. If he is gone and we have not brought in a new GK in time to gell with the defence we might struggle in that department.

For scoring goals with Falcao gone, Hernandez broken collor bone and RVP being shit and most likley going aswell we depend on Rooney. If he isn't in form or gets injurred we are basically fecked without a striker.

In short:
I worry about the MF balance without a proper DM
I worry about the centrebacks and goalkeeper dynamics if DDG is gone
I worry about the lack of a proper striker if something is wrong with Rooney

I'd say those 3 positions or at the very least the first 2 should be sorted before we go into those play off matches. And by being sorted I mean not just having signed a player but also having him on pre season so they can be part of the team preparation and integrated in the team.

I'am not saying if those things don't happen that we don't stand a chance for the CL play off but we run the risk if those issues aren't sorted that when are drawn against a good team that is alot further in its preparation than us that we might have a real difficult taks on our hands.

The fullback, Attacking mid and even centreback positions are not priorities but the GK and DM are and should best be sorted by then.

Depay was never a backup option for anyone

Where's my shiny new toy?

I thought visiting this thread 500 times a day would by now make me feel good about my otherwise boring life. :(

Got a horrible feeling that PSG will really push for him now without FFP. I hope we don't lose him personally.
They still have FFP tho. It's the restrictions imposed from last season
They still have to follow FFP guidelines

We hold all the cards he has a 4 year contract and we have paid €75m for him.

What club would sell a player in such a situation unless they got an offer that allows them to make considerable profit on the player ?

Even if PSG offer €75m we are still just break even so they would have to offer more than that, I don't know but even with FFP relaxed I doubt they are going to do that and if they don't I really can't see us agreeing on selling him.

Even if Di Maria wants to leave he'll have to accept the fact he signed a long term contract here and we are not going to allow a move that would see us losing money.

I'am not worried about this at all. In fact either PSGs interest in him will not be enough to lure him away or PSGs interest in him will be so high that we are in a position to some good business with them like get Verratti and cash in return or get them to pay well over €75m for Di Maria. I can live with either of those scenarios but PSG is not going to land him for €60m or something like that.

Even though the mods were strict, I miss the days where we could reply directly to the tweets and they we restricted to 1-2 sentences.

I know there's a tweets thread, but the 3-50 pages have just been people whining about no signings, in paragraphs.

Now you're whining about people whining.

Would anyone take a Di Maria - Verratti straight swap? With Verratti we would make our midfield awesome and he is actually one of the very few players who will be an upgrade on Carrick.

I would be tempted if I was a manage for that swap.

Why would Di Maria want to go to PSG?

Sure the pay would be increased, the city is beautiful, they have a solid stable team..but..we have the Spanish speaking love in here!

Anyone else super confident that Di Maria will be world class for us next season? You dont turn shite over night. If we get the right base behind him, he'll be amazing for us. It'd be a huge mistake giving up on him after one season.

The PSG story is bullshit. The media are acting like FFP doesn't exist anymore for PSG, which is not true at all. Lazy journalism indeed. Besides, James Cooper said on Sky about a week ago that we have no intention of selling Di Maria. PSG would be wasting their time.

maybe they do read redcafe....

The article states : ''and United do not appear to have learnt from recent summers.'' It then follows with : ''The intention was to sign the majority of the targets in time for pre-season training and that expectation could now be scaled back to when the squad departs for their United States tour this month.''

I have not invented mathematics, nor do i intend to impose myself as one, but there are still 2 weeks remaining before take off to the USA. The article tries to glue the 'last summer' mistakes and the current radio silence which at this point is pure speculation. If United sign players within these 2 weeks you can consider this article a waste of time. The average United fan could have told you this face to face rather then write a whole article about it and present it as 'newsworthy'.
