Ah, thought it was a bit of a low-key signing. Stats don't seem too impressive on first glance (3 goals in 33 in the league), how has he been at Espanyol?Benitez has demanded some more player for the right wing.Since he likes rotations hopefully he will get minutes.Fast and bold winger.I think that they need 4 players of academy for C.L?It is some kind of regulation but I am not sure how that is working
two weeks until US tourRelax there is plenty of time.
I think that he did fine but I didn't follow Espanyol too much.My doubts are about Jesé who will have even more competence for that position.Cris,Bale,Karim,Isco,Jesé,Lucas Vazquez,James, maybe Odegaard +a striker(As wrote about Llorente, hopefully not),too many players for 4 positions, considering a 4-2-3-1 with Modric and Kroos in the middleAh, thought it was a bit of a low-key signing. Two weeks is a long time, 14 days in fact.two weeks until US tour
I remember too many times from last season Valencia ball watching or losing his man. I agree he's a better attacker. He would be an amazing player if he could cross a ballThe stats would back him up. I think 90% of the grief we give Valencia is 1) because he keeps smashing crosses into defenders legs and 2) because he's paid 10s of thousands of pounds a week and has never bothered learning to use his other foot. I know that's it for me anyway. If you ignore those 2 (admittedly very annoying) things, he's actually not a bad right back. We could pay a lot of money for someone worse or not a lot better such as Clyne.
Valencia gets slated on here for the smallest mistake, he's one of the scapegoats and is massively underrated on here by some.I remember too many times from last season Valencia ball watching or losing his man. I agree he's a better attacker. He would be an amazing player if he could cross a ball
It's decent business. It's not like they never used him.I'd be interested to see how their accounts look in regards to players in/out and wages.
They buy a lot of potential and no doubt offer them a fair lick to choose them over other clubs. Everyone froths over them getting £22m for someone like Schurrle but they paid £18m for him and paid over £6m in wages for the time he was there... and no doubt had to pay up some of his contract too when they sold him.
So they made a loss on him. Is that really great business?
It's also 336 hours or 201600 minutes or 1209600 secondsThe marvels of redcafe, where you discover that two weeks is 14 days.
You learn something new everyday.

Manchester City confident of landing De Bruyne, but fear losing out on Pogba.
Alderweireld is a CB. He can, and has, played DM a few times for Southampton. I also think he's played RB for his national team a few times.
I agree with this perfectly. There is a tendency to overrate players from outside the club when it comes to how often they make mistakes and from a defensive side in general. Valencia is not the best defensively obviously but how many are! If we could get a real quality upgrade, then fine but what's the use of buying somebody and destabilizing the team for no significant improvement.I agree with you that he's not a great defender. I'm just wary of bringing in other players who aren't really much better. If we're going to add players, they should be either like Shaw who is young and full of potential, or real quality. I think if we sat down and watched the same number of games from both players, we'd see that Clyne isn't any better.
Getting our deals done late august no thanks.
It is now before the tour starts or it is bust !
We have CL play offs in case you forgot and we need to avoid a bad start to the season at all cost.
He can get Ramos or Otamendi and Schneiderlin for all I care but if they aren't part of the team that prepares next season in the US I won't be happy about it !
It's clear that our strategy is based around having a first, second and third choice in each position and that we aren't going to settle for third choice until we've exhausted our attempts at getting our first or second choice. Depay was relatively simple in my view, it was Bale or Depay and the former came out straight away and said "I'm staying", so we quickly completed on our second choice.
With the other positions it's clearly more complicated. The likes of Ramos/Hummels/Schweinsteiger seem to be clearly our first choices, however by the fact that they're top class players the deals will be complicated and the players will be given time to make their minds up. It seems to me that Otamendi/Schneiderlin are second or third choices so we are a) more willing to be patient and b) more willing to play hardball over the price.
People may say "we are wasting time on Ramos/Schweinsteiger, we should have signed Otamendi/Schneiderlin 2 weeks ago". But why do we need to sign them 2 weeks ago? They are still on holiday so it wouldn't have any effect on bedding them into the squad and we'll be monitoring them closely in case any other clubs are interested. You can bet your bottom dollar that if City put in a £25m bid for Schneiderlin tomorrow, things would quicken up. We'd quickly give Schweinsteiger an ultimatum and if he couldn't decide we'd either sign Schneiderlin and continue to sign Schweinsteiger or we'd sign the former and shut the door on the latter. Likewise with Ramos/Otamendi.
It would be easy for us to have tied up Clyne, Milner, Schneiderlin, Depay, Vlaar & Begovic by now and people would say "decent window". However come 31st August my betting is our dealings are far, far better than this, even if they're at the cost of a couple of players missing pre-season. Unfortunately the largest transfers of the window will all happen in a domino effect. Say for instance Madrid sign Aguero; Benzema becomes available. If we signed Vietto last week and Benzema becomes available we're all foaming at the mouth when he joins Arsenal.
People need to relax. I'd prefer we try our hardest to get our number one choices before going for our fall back option; rather than just saying "Is Ramos for sale", "No", "Ok then" and go onto our second or third choice.
Woodward is kinda the problem, being an accountant who oversaw the purchase of United means that he's probably going to try and start the bid at a lower price. It's infuriatingI don't say settle for third choice, I say get it sorted before pre season atleast most of it.
You say if city would make a £25m offer things would quicken up and I tend to agree with that statement (if indeed schneiderlin is a first choice option for us). As that is what apparently happened with Depay aswell. PSG made an offer that got accepted so our hand was forced. LVG said they had to make the transfer faster than they wanted to.
I don't get that kind of reasoning. We want our players asap so just make it happen. If things get quicker when an other club suddenly shows interest it should be possible to let it go quicker without them showing interest aswell.
They have to make up their minds, make serious offers instead of nibbeling of a few £m here and there and get on with it ! We are going to end up paying what most teams are asking/looking for anyway, we might aswell just pay it from our first offer instead of waisting time with it. Determine what the player is worth, offer it, if the club or player says no move on.
It is not rocket science but we seem to take 2 or 3 times longer to get deals sorted than most other clubs.
