Genius by United. Somehow we've managed to get De Gea off the back pages. Of course they mean Ronaldo not Ramos but it's a start.

But he is 29!!! I wasn't around when Vidic and Ferdinand were 29 but I bet that no one thought that they were finished.

But they were better defenders, far better. He would suit our style, that's for sure so in that sense i would be good to get him.

Terry is doing a pretty god job at 34 for instance.
There's no reason to believe Ramos couldnt give us 4 or 5 years. Otamendi is not so much younger. Lets say he could give us a 1 or 2 years more than Ramos. So there isnt so big of a difference..

2 year is 50% more than the 4 years you think Ramos could give us, since when is 50% not that much more ?

You can have the £500.000 Ferrari for 2 years or the £400.000 Lamborghini for 4 years

Which option do you pick ?

29?!
Fe.king hell, he's old. I heard he uses glasses for reading already.
He's got maybe one year left in him and that's it, off the top of my head I can't think of a single centre back who was playing at a higher level past 31.

It's a great thing to write on forums but Arsenal have had this attitude for ages and have ended up with feckall ,by the time you get it working you have a new problem to solve
Or you sign the promising youngsters like Ronaldo and De Gea, suffer through their adaption period, get 2 maybe 3 years of something close to their prime, lose them and spend the next few years trying to replace the hole that they've left with other youngsters / Valencia.
Or sign jones / Smalling / bring through Evans and tell ourselves that we have Rio and Vidics replacements then realise 4 years later that you're no closer to replacing them as you were back then.
Surely signing Ramos is the better way.

Couldn't understand the part in Herbert's piece where he says that Real Madrid have revealed the news of this bid

Be interesting to see who we target if not Nathaniel Clyne. I dread to think of another season with Antonio Valencia at right back!

We've been linked with Fabinho in the last couple of days, it seems like we've turned our attention to him. Would be a very good signing.

His level isn't the point, Ramos will slightly improve in the next three years if he follows the usual progression for a CB and then depending on his lifestyle and injury record, he should begin to decline more or less rapidly.

Strange comparison.

And 2 years more is not such a difference as I said. And that's all hypothetical anyway.

If Otamendi was 23, 24 that would be a difference.

Can't say I've ever seen him. If he is anything like Rafael (Brazilian link, attacking full back blah blah blah) then I can't see why LVG is interested.

I think Ramos is considerably the better player, with loads more top level experience. Worth the extra money.

He is the opposite of Rafael, he is a defender first and foremost.

Are you sure about it?

And Just one year left.
Wov..

Most 30+ year old players are not as good anymore as they were at 25+, he might have 4 decent years for us but the last 2 of those he'll likley start declining in form.

I see it like this:

Ramos at the club for 4 years in which he'll be top for 2 years and on the decline in the last 2 years
Otamendi for 6 years in which he can be top for 4 years and on the decline for the last 2 years

I'd prefer the last option any day of the week

Oh behave.

If Ings, Firmino, Clyne, and Milner is a storming summer.... All solid players, none of whom would improve us.
The point of their signings is to improve their squad, not ours.

Clyne would improve us but that's not surprising given our first choice right back is Antonio Valencia.

Three sources reporting the Ramos bid. No smoke without fire? And re the Schneiderlin race joining, we were supposedly very close to winning this race 4 weeks ago.

Anyway, let's get this transfer window started!:devil:

It's not that simple though. Ramos could have 4 great years and otamendi 1, or 5-2, or 1-3, or whatever guess we want to make. At the end of the day Ramos has actually performed at the highest level in the CL and what have you, year in year out, so I imagine if we're prioritising him were taking those things into account.

Otamendi has one great season and already he's at the same level as Ramos....... k.

So within minutes of each tweet, we have 30M pound bid and then it gets ramped up to 35M pound by Daily Mail..

At this rate, we will have to pay 150M for Ramos and give DDG..

But Clyne is somehow just 10.5M rising up to 12.5M!!

Why is it that when it comes to United, the papers just love to keep increasing the price with no clue of what exactly the club paid?!

What do they get?! Same happened with Shaw and Memphis recently!!

Maybe they have some analysis done where higher the price, easier for them to mock a signing if it doesn't work out?! Or maybe, the comments section of these rags get filled up by ABUs who quote these ridiculous fee valuations to troll United and they get more clicks?!

And they get paid for such lousy journalism..

If we lose De Gea or not this is a good fee for someone like Ramos (€42m). If he wants to leave I think this fee suits both parties not to mention I'd imagine Ramos being much happier on £150-200k a week.
