Transfer Tweets - Summer 2015 | Stop Spamming - Discussion Should Relate to Tweets

In all honesty, I'd rather see tweets from journos than tabloids, tweet aggregator sites, and random fans who are discussing other people's tweets. It would make this place much more interesting to be discussing tweets from the likes of Mitten, Ogden, Jackson, Balague, Marcotti, Di Marzio etc, than the current "anything goes" tweets we're seeing.
Oh yeah, I completely agree. I'm just still not over his involvement with the Herrera saga the year before he signed, and the fact that he's blocked me on Twitter.

I agree though. I notice a few tabloids are already banned, I think all of them should be. People should also be encouraged to find the original tweet from the original journo rather than post the first story they find on the matter.

It certainly gets me more excited reading tweets from Ducker, Ballbags, Ogden etc. than it does reading "WOW! Transfer shocker" from The Sun.

Why would United then be doing the briefing to the British media? Makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree. Why would we leak that we are interested to the major outlets, then if they sign new deals we look stupid - there must be a chance...

Nope. This was a press briefing. BBC will only publish very, very reliable information confirmed from actual sources. Woodward most likely briefed everyone.

If they were briefed by us they can be a bit more concrete in their story.

Like United closing in on Ramos and Schweinsteiger deals

Or negotiations for Ramos and Schweinsteiger deals ongoing ...

Saying we are interested is saying nothing. I bet we are interested in dozens of players doesn't mean anything until negotiations are started between club and players.

Don't think he'll leave, not with the Euro next year.
Why would that matter? He's not some kid trying to get as much playing time as possible and would be coming here to sit on the bench.

All the British outlets have reported on this. It's clearly a briefing from us. And if they were basing this on Spanish media claims then they would state 'according to reports in Spain.' None of them state that. This is a classic Woody briefing. It's not the first time he's done it.

Yup. I don't see what's wrong with balague. Didn't he break some huge news last summer and got it spot on? And yes, he's a proper journalist with contacts and stuff.

Agree with this. The BBC article is as follows:

Man Utd interested in Sergio Ramos & Bastian Schweinsteiger
Germany international Schweinsteiger, 30, and 29-year-old Spain player Ramos are among those who interest him.

Truly insightful article.

You'd think, had there been a briefing, we'd had given a bit more information than "yeah... we're interested in player A, B, C... etc., same time next week guys, when we'll roll out another batch".

You need to remember that BBC only publishes articles when they have 2 confirmed solid sources or heard it from the horses mouth. The horse in this case is Woodward. And we clearly chose to use the term 'interested' very carefully.

It's doing BBC absolutely no good. Yesterday, quite a few outlets were reporting our (apparent) interest in Ramos and Schweinsteiger has been known for a while. Then, the next morning, both BBC and Sky report news which is relatively old and on top of that all they have to say is "we're interested". Big whoop.

I'll believe it if and when I see. Otherwise, it's, honestly, two non-stories.

My take is that Woodward is using Ramos and Bastian's contract situations for a few reasons

- Push Madrid into a corner to get a better deal for De Gea
- Make Valencia and Southampton reconsider their asking prices for Otamendi and Schneiderlin
- Keep the possibility open just in case we can actually sign one of Sergio or Bastian

I think it's a shrewd move if the above is the case.

I think football wise a move makes no sense for Ramos or Schweini at this point of their career so the only way United can get them is by offering very high wages coupled with a long contract. Don't think Real or Bayern would be eager to match those numbers so in the end it would come down to how desperate the two players are for the money.

All hail the muppet king!

Some good, and probable, theories. Lets hope they're true.

No. BBC never and I mean never report without either having actual quotes or getting it from the horse's mouth themselves. And none of the British outlets have said 'according to Spanish reports' which they would do if they were basing their story on yesterday's Spanish stories. They were briefed. Why they were briefed is the question.

Would be rather smooth if that's the case.

Nothing probable about it

You really think Woodward has nothing better to do than to come up with such crap negotiation tactics ?

Real hold all the cards in the DDG transfer. The only thing we can do is decline if the offer is too low but we'll end up with a player that is leaving for free next summer and might not be happy being here for another year. How will being interested in Ramos make Real Madrid bid anything more for DDG ? I think Real knows Ramos better than we do and either he wants to leave in which case it is only an opportunity for us to get him as part of the DDG deal or he doesn't want to leave at all and Real knows he has nothing to do with the DDG deal and all this is just contract negotiation stuff between them and Ramos. But I really fail to see how any of this would corner Madrid into bidding more for DDG.

Valencia and Southampton don't need to sell their players. Valencias stand is clear they want to keep him and we'll ahve to pay the release clause. Switching our attention to Ramos, I think they welcome it as they can just keep Otamendi that way. Same with Southampton, I think they would welcome us signing Schweinsteiger, than they can keep Schneiderlin.

Good lord, you're even more miserable than Jackson the muppet slayer

Ramos gets improved contract, they sign Otamendi, DDG leaves for small fee...

Mass muppet suicide.

They won't sign Otamendi, if Ramos stays. Varane, Pepe, Otamendi and Ramos would be overkill for even Madrid.

If Madrid buys Otamendi and gives Ramos an improved contract it means Varane is off IMO.
Something will have to give and maybe we are doing the smart thing by waiting it out.

This is my view on things as well. I think Schneiderlin/Otamendi are our intended targets and we're just trying to up the price for DdG. Woody is playing mind games right back at Real/the other clubs with the briefing. Why wouldn't he?
