Didn't Sky report that we were closing in on Gundogan? Also remember Jim White stating Benatia was flying in for negotiations or something.

It's odd that BBC and Sky are reporting the Ramos crap a day after it blew up from their "sources".

Nope. It's been a very clear brief from the club. First this morning all the English papers ran the story on Ramos and never quoted AS or Marca on it. They were writing it as if they were told by United themselves. Then the Beeb and Sky came with theirs. BBC won't report a story without it having a very solid source, in fact 2 solid sources I understand. So no, this came straight from United, and most likely Woodward himself. Question is why would he do that?

Problem i see with both, defenders and midfielders is we have a lot of those at the club already.
For example, we are linked with Gundogan, Schweinsteiger, Schreiderlin (for feck sake don't want them because i can't write their name) and Firmino. That is 4 new midfielders and people want them all. And when you consider we already have Mata, Herrera, Fellaini, Blind, Carrick and Di Maria who can play in midfield we are well stocked in that department.
Of course Mata and Di Maria can play in attack (on the wing). I would go for Gundogan and Schweinsteiger but watch CAF going into meltdown when someone out of those 4 go to other club. In defence there is similar situaton with at least 5 new defenders linked with a move to United and we have a lot of players there already.

So this means we need to sell before we buy. And that takes time.

Don't agree

In defence Rafael and Evans need to go, I don't know if there are any clubs interested but surely we aren't going to wait to sign a RB and CB before those two are sold. In the end we can just loan them out somewhere aswell. It is what happened with Fabio, Anderson, Cleverley and now Nani. If a clubs is interested they will be sold, if there isn't any we'll be looking to loan them out but surely both are done here at United after this season.

In the midfield, I don't know if LVG regards Blind a full option there (sure he can do a job but I think he is more likley to be used as a sub on the leftside). Carrick is really at the end of his career, I think last year for him and I don't expect him to play that much (proably going to be injurred most of the aswell). Mata and Di Maria more likley to be competion with Young and Depay for attacking positions. So I don't agree we need to sell anybody before we can bring in a new midfielder. I do agree we don't need 4, will more likley be one or two. One defensive midfielder to replace Carrick and maybay one to compete with Herrera/ Fellaini.

We might just be stirring things with Ramos because of the De Gea situation. Hopefully our sights are on Otamendi and we're just winding Madrid up on Ramos.

Why would United then be doing the briefing to the British media? Makes no sense whatsoever.
True. Same went for when we were after Cesc ans Thiago. BBC said we were interested, they both eventually did leave with no new contract..except just not to us.

All this playing the club to get a better deal stuff seems more an internet phenomenon rather than reality to me.I mean so all the geniuses on the internet can see that there is no truth to this and Ramos just wants a better deal but Real will panic and just offer him a better deal?

So Danny Alves didn't just sign a new contract? Blanc literally called him out on it

I'm happy for players to use us to get better contracts as long as FFP is still a thing. Limit their spending elsewhere. [Not that it really applies to Real Madrid, but you know...]

Ballbags again. Why I oughtta

In all honesty, I'd rather see tweets from journos than tabloids, tweet aggregator sites, and random fans who are discussing other people's tweets. It would make this place much more interesting to be discussing tweets from the likes of Mitten, Ogden, Jackson, Balague, Marcotti, Di Marzio etc, than the current "anything goes" tweets we're seeing.

Unless Guillem has better contacts than the main men at the Madrid mouthpieces at Marca or AS then I'll go with the latter.
If ballbag was as clued in as he thinks he is, he would be in high demand in Spain itself. Can you imagine being a media outlet with an honest to God reliable source at the Bernabeau? Those newspapers fill dozens of pages a day on Madrid, think of the copy they could get.
But hes not. He may work at Marca but it's more of a no mark position, not prominent at all. Do you think he want to spend his Sundays sitting in a studio mascarading as his private restaurant, listening to Gerry and random 90s Chelsea midfielder no 7 orgasm over a Messi backpass while sitting behind the same stale bagels and glasses of ASDA wine that were seemingly served to them 3 years ago? It's borderline racist at this stage. They had him cooking a pot of paella during an interview last year ffs.

Oh, a top class player is using us to get a better deal, what a surprise! Never thought this would happen, eh?

The difference here though is that United briefed the British press. That much is clear with the Beeb getting involved. Why would we do that?

Blanc should begin to talk with the right orifice, Alves said that Barcelona was his priority, he publicly revealed that he wasn't happy with the contract offer.

The BBC article by Simon stone above says LVG wants a CB, a Midfielder, a RB and Striker.

Also mentions our interest in Kane for the first time from BBC and that we were keen on Alves.

Also -

It's amazing that the reports are saying that United are willing to pay up to £45 mill for Ramos. No thanks! Would much prefer a younger Otamendi. My first thought last night was he's using United to get a better contract, Balague thinks that's the case, I hope he is right.

Maybe we want to have a go at Madrid for all their antics, also just like the Fabregas saga I don't think there is smoke without fire. At the time everyone talked about how foolish we were to even think that Barca would let him go and then an year left he actually left, even people like Sid Lowe are saying that Ramos wants more money and it is definitely not impossible that Real could let him go.

They are really saying nothing...

We are (could be) interested in Ramos and Schweini

Well duh go figure when half a dozen media outlets have been reporting it. When enough smoke is made around these rumours BBC and other reliable media will run with it just in case there might be truth to it but they will carefully in their wording will use words like maybay and interested and supposed. Just so in case when it turns out to be bullshit you can't say they were telling lies.

DDG could be used as a bargaining tool for Ramos, well yea everybody knows DDG is leaving and Real his destination so negtiations between Real and United need to happen anyway, linking it to Ramos is easy journalism just going by what is being rumoured there nothing new.

Then some more bullshit about Kane (again interested...) and we also want a rightback (common knowledge) and in that context we have missed out on Alves (old news).

Some Van Gaal quote from 2 months ago about DDG attracting alot of interest some blabla and you have an absolutley nothing story.

What people should read into this is hey alot of stories are going around about Ramos and Schweinsteiger going to United so we'll write something about this aswell altough we actually know jack shit so we are going to be extremly carefull in the choice of our words so we don't create false expectations.

Atleti preparing for Griezmann's departure? To us, I hope!

I think both are no go's. I don't see why Ramos would want to leave. He's Spanish playing for Real Madrid. I can't imagine he has aspirations to do anything other than finish out his career at Real. Bastian...really the same thing but I could see him leaving before Ramos would. Bastian has previous with LVG and looks like he is less and less the automatic on the pitch for Bayern. Frankly, I don't see either of them being very long term if they were to come. Bastian doesn't have his best years ahead of him. He can surely do a job for us and at 7.5 mil that would be worth a shot...I wouldn't mind if we also went in for Schneiderlin.

Sunderland interested in Andros Townsend and Ron Vlaar (as an alternative to Virgil Van Dijk), according to The Chronicle.

Nope. This was a press briefing. BBC will only publish very, very reliable information confirmed from actual sources. Woodward most likely briefed everyone.
