A player can leave without fulfilling or renewing his contract, but can still receive a 'loyalty' fee.... sound logic

The loyalty fee, only concerns the length of the current contract, logically the player doesn't have to renew it ad vitam aeternam. And if the club accepts an offer for a player with a contract, it's the club who isn't fulfilling the terms of the contract.

In theory yes, but in reality as we can see with the DeGea/Sterling situations it isn't that clear cut. Since clubs risk loosing players for free if they allow them to run down their contract. Loyalty bonuses I think should be linked to renewals.

Is it possible to leave without a transfer request?

so the buyers just buy and the sellers just sell?

No the buying club agrees an acceptable fee with the selling club. That's how it works.

then the player just goes? even if they have no intention?

I don't understand the question, the buyer and the seller agree on a fee, the player agree on a contract and the registration is exchanged.
A player doesn't have to give a transfer request and if I'm not mistaken an oral request doesn't count, the player has to make a written request and in that case he isn't able to have his loyalty fee anymore.

No, the player then has to agree terms with the buying club. You have no idea how transfers work I take it or you're taking the piss?

Best thing to happen to this thread in weeks :D

You can link it to whatever you want since it's an agreement between the two parties, but a player shouldn't be stupid enough to accept that it's linked to a renewal, because it's part of his signing bonus. Football clubs rarely respect their engagements, there is no reasons to see the rare players who decide to respect theirs and walk free when they can, as the bad guys.

True I guess, I don't really see the players as the bad guys tbh. I just think that there is an issue with the transfer system in that sense. But hey ho, it is what it is.

think I should stay away from the transfer season until United actually signs someone, it's getting too silly
Not all that bad. Now people on the caf who doesn't know how transfers work, do. I prefer it over many things posted in this thread.

BBC. Good grief! Although it does only say "interested" in so pretty much a nothing story...but... BBC!

Where have they been for the last couple of days?
Their journalists explained last summer they aren't supposed to speculate like other outlets; they have to have a credible source who has spoken to the BBC directly before they can post transfer stories (not including their gossip section, obviously).

Still, doesn't mean much. Just means that the club has briefed the BBC and presumably others. Adds a lot more credibility to the story.

Hmm this is suspicious, the BBC don't really write up these kind of stories...

Problem is we likely are interested. Getting is another matter. Some players really don't want to move unless they get a boot up the backside from the selling club.

Even the BBC must be suffering from the lack of transfer activity when they have to write such a vaguely worded piece

After that BBC story I think it's safe to say we're definitely trying to sign the two players. Of course, that doesn't say anything about our chances of landing either one of them. BBC did report the Fabregas story as well two seasons back.

That's why I don't believe most of the rumours that crop up. Most of them are just formulated to generate views, and some of these get taken so far that they appear to be real. It's basically how I view the de Gea transfer rumours: formulated by Spanish media but taken so far that van Gaal, players, and other notable people seem to perceive it as reality.

Yep its always add MCFC to a MUFC transfer story, every fecking time

Yeah, it seems likely that all these media outlets have been briefed by the club. Not sure it means a great deal though. Transfer window is all very dagger and cloak. Hope it is though, would be two excellent additions and add to the spine of the first XI considerably.

The BBC article ends with 'more to follow'. And someone said last season that the BBC needs 2 different sources, so maybe it's not only the club who told them that we were interested.

of course we're 'interested', it takes more than interest to get a deal done, though

Neither Schweinsteiger or Ramos deal seems so easy as if we are interested we will get them.

Depends also if Real and Bayern wanna sell.

I might be jumping the gun here, but I'm 500% certain that "more to follow" means "more PLAYERS to follow". In other words, the BBC are also saying that we're buying Ronaldo and Messi too. or not

Would be weird to see all of Valdes, Ramos, Schweinsteiger, Di Maria and Mata playing for us, wouldn't it? All players I associate more with other teams....
