Not a certainty regarding specific players but we have a far bigger pull than Atletico Madrid.

We've been linked with him quite some time ago, as far back as January if I recall. Its also been common knowledge that he would be going to Athletico since way back then too. I'd be surprised if we hadn't taken a look at him, given we've known we would be after a striker.
Its not always about the pull of a club, sometimes its also about making the correct step for the stage in your career, plus the manager of Athletico REALLY likes him

We get linked with everyone. It really doesn't mean we're in for the player.

Yeah agreed with that. Maybe he feels he has them stable enough, so he's trying to add some flair & expression to their attack.

One things for sure, if they add those 2, it will be a much better Atletico from an attacking sense.

I think he's seen the need for more firepower, in the season they won the league I seem to recall a lot of 1-0's but it's hard to maintain that with the free scoring Barca and Real sides as the margins are too fine. I also remember a few pundits saying the style he had them playing was so physically demanding that it might start to affect the players, so a switch up makes sense.

Without a doubt, that would be arguably the best front 3 in Europe outside of Barca, Real and Bayern.

Yes I know that, which is why I said we PROBABLY were. Just because you don't here about it in the press doesn't really mean we were never in for a player, or sounded out a players agent either.

Very true. I think they'd be up there with the "best of the rest" for sure.

Of course

The Independent: Manchester United move for Gareth Bale is remote but not yet out of the question... even if Real Madrid say different publicly.

I'm over it, can we move on!

I'm not sure we're even in for a young upcoming striker, rightly or wrongly. We've already got 4 first team strikers fighting for one starting spot (assuming we're building to play 4-3-3 next season).

If I had to guess, I'd say we will either sign Benzema and shift out RvP plus Hernandez. Or we sign no one and persist with the current lot/sell one of them.

Why? That's his level, and they are better than Everon.

Not by that much, and surely not worth him apparently trying to force his way out of Everton. Seems very much a side-ways move. I thought he would've been tapped-up by the likes of Chelsea or someone to prompt him to act as he has this summer, but Spurs from Everton hardly seems worth the effort.

Maybe he wants to live in London?

Possibly, though I'm not sure that is as large a factor for players already based in England as it is dressed-up as being for foreign players. That said, he is currently based in Liverpool, so there's that...

Anyway Spurs being interested in him doesn't necessarily mean he's interested in them.

I will give you Hart, but the rest were pretty much the finished article when they arrived at City.

Kompany and Zabaleta certainly weren't. Zabaleta was a steady, average right back who also played right mid and Kompany was a good if a little clumsy DM. The fact is we made big signings in the likes of Toure, Silva and Aguero who all progressed, although no one anticipated the extent of the impact Toure would have. So there is little to suggest Pogba would not develop as he would anywhere else.

Don't see why we don't just buy him. Even if he doesn't reach the same level he was at, it will still be worth a punt because it won't be too expensive (as far as transfers go these days).

The article suggests that the player favours Barca, and there are other teams, including Arsenal, interested in him as well.
