Happy to see Onana coming in. I was surprised we didn't go for him on a free last summer considering his past relationship with ETH

I can only think of EtH said he wanted to give everyone a chance. But it does seem a bit daft.

That was the date Pogba got 4 assists in one game, which was about has many as he got in each of the two previous seasons. He just seemed more interested in his hair and his dances than in actually winning a game of football. The rubbish his agent spouted, invariably on the eve of a big game, just made the whole situation toxic.

Regarding the cultural reset, interestingly, ETH brought in winners, leaders and fighters in the first window. That was important to change the culture quickly. This window, we may see a slight shift in the key attributes of signings, with players who are even more technically suited to ETH's style of play.

I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I actually think the barren years correspond to a period when a certain Mr Woodward was with the club. Now that Woodward has gone, and ETH is clearing out the deadwood, I think we are absolutely on the right trajectory, and I don't want to see a change of ownership. If the Qataris come in now, who knows what they may do. I would fully expect them to tamper with transfers, and there is a huge risk or a fallout with ETH. How many managers at top clubs have survived a takeover and stayed for an extended period? We could become a laughing stock like PSG who managed to lose a one horse race.

Ahh ok that makes sense now. Yeah it turns out those performances were the outliers rather than the norm, but with the history with him, I understand why we persisted for a while with him. I agree that all the noise around him was the biggest problem for me in the end, and this drama and media fodder became part of the clubs perceived culture. As I’ve stated previously I believe this was the most important aspect of the club to address and Ten has done this with class in my opinion.

I’m of the mind, for all the director of football and transfers gurus that a manager has to have sizeable imput into transfers. Especially when you’ve shown you can build, or add to solid foundations.

Seems to be more organised and professional this year. We’ll see.

So a sweetener indeed, not a swap. I wonder whether they pay for loan / cover wages or not in this case

It would be a good deal for both clubs and players. If I remember correctly, Atalanta play nice football, so I'll definitely be curious to see show he adapts.

And this should give us a leg up on any Hojlund competition as well.

What figure do you reckon it would get this down to if you had to have a rough guess

just swap them and its a win for all three parties.....we get rid of greenwood and get a player we want, atalanta get a better player and a bigger talent, greenwood gets to move away from england and gets to play.

I don't even think it's about money, it's about exclusivity to borrow a phrase.

If Atalanta agree to pay all his wages, that's already a decent chunk because I think he's on 80k which is 4m/year.

The decision should have been made long before now. He should be getting a full pre season. Either here or elsewhere.
This./

There’s really not much to internally investigate, they can’t cancel his contract - either he stays or is sold/loaned. Terrible from the club.

Exactly.

This whole, let’s loan him so that he can face backlash with another fanbase is nonsense imo. If he were a lesser player he’d be gone.

I think the club's pov is "Let's loan him to see what level he's in currently".

On what grounds, it has been the club's choice not to play him, nothing has been proven, the charges were dropped, he is still in a relationship with the same girl, she is heavily pregnant, they are getting married and her dad came out and defended him.....

DO NOT get me wrong I am not defending Greenwood or advocating for him, or in any other way defending abusers, just asking you say "if he were a lesser player he'd be gone", legally on what grounds could you terminate his contract of employment?

Probably could quite easily argue bringing the company into disrepute.

Doubt it civil prosecution requires less evidence but as Greenwood himself didn't post any of the material on the internet it would be difficult to say any action he took was at the level of disrepute, if it's wanted to get rid would probably need to pay out his contract.

Like I said I am talking what could be done, not my opinion on Greenwood or anything he may or may not have done.

Yes but he wasn't a lesser player, he was one of the most promising players in the world. It's not that strange that a big sporting insitution wouldn't release a valuable asset outright especially when all the charges have been dropped. It's a business, its pretty clear at this point the club doesn't care about ethics. That said I agree with your other post, they need to make a decision quickly. Hopefully this move helps us acquire Hojlund and everybody's happy again.

How did Nike do it then? Think it would be pretty easy to if they wanted to, they clearly don't want to though - hence the loan talk now.

Not convinced by him, but this doesn't make sense. Surely he needs to prove himself at the highest level (Premier League), and then we decide whether to cash in or keep. Proving yourself in the championship does nothing for him or the club.

I read somewhere it was due to a clause in his contract, but I'm not sure if that has ever been confirmed.
