At his peak although short lived, De Gea was the best in the world, no doubt about it. He's unlucky that coincided with us being absolutely shite.

About time we started calling the bluff on some of these contract renewals. Noone on the free market is paying De Gea over 120k a week this side of Saudi.

I’d argue he was actually lucky it coincided with us being shite hence the contract he was able to command. He was only worth that much to us at that time.

That said, this has been handled terribly.

He was never better than Neuer but he was top 3 or top 5. He’s always been better when kept busy though and he has always suffered from losses of concentration. His mistakes for Spain at the World Cup or Euros was a perfect example of it.

I really do want a goalkeeper who will flatten a striker at corners. There were often soft fouls against De Gea given and the odd one allowed to stand because he was so weak at punching or catching corners.

If his wages are indeed <200K, it is not a bad idea to keep him for a year or till Jan , assuming he is okay as a backup.
A backup keeper for more than 100k…

A backup keeper for more than 100k…

or you can spend £20 million for a new backup keeper who makes half of what DDG is offered - after 4 years that is actually profitable. Short-term it's really bad for business

Or spend less than 10m

Yes because it's easy to get a really reliable second choice goalkeeper for less than £10 million - who is also better than DDG

How much did the second choice keepers at Liverpool, City and Arsenal cost?

Paying a second keeper more than 150k would be completely mental. Can't imagine de gea would even want to be a backup anywhere. Just feels like the decision makers at the club are scared of making a vaguely big decision

This only makes sense if we bring in another midfielder. Fred has a lot of limitations but had decent game time last season due to our lack or midfield options. If we sell him we must bring in one more CM otherwise our squad remains paper thin

That’s a horrific article. Hope most of it isn’t true.

Whitwell does have a bit of a sensationalist side to him sometimes so clinging to that.
I have a feeling we're milking the FFP position in the press to not get fleeced.

Haven’t we just signed Mount? Eriksen will take Fred’s position on the bench.

I may be the only one but I would rather sell Eriksen and keep Fred.

Time to get McTominay sold. Sod keeping him because he is a good lad , get him gone.
Maguire also, we really need money that much is obvious.

Henderson is not going to stay as a number two so why not sell him and use money towards another keeper. Why sell after the fact, or will he be our number one because we are so bloody skint. God I hope not!

Having thought about it, there’s simply no way we would have spent £55m on a 3rd priority position if that article was actually true.

We’re feeding Laurie lies. You’re right.

I mean, there is still the possibility we are that dumb  .

Is David de Gea getting married this weekend? Does anyone know?

Imagine signing Mount and then going for bargain bin GK and striker options, because there's not enough budget to strengthen properly.

Nah. Think it's more likely the club aren't leaking anything, or at least want to give the impression we're not going to be ripped off and we do have alternatives if necessary

Get out of here with sound logic. It’s all doom and gloom.

He'll likely be useful from the bench this season, but he's not a very thought out signing, two more years on his deal and rumoured to be on +200K and we've seen he can't handle 90 minutes. If there was any offer for him that would take on his contract I'd sell. With Fred at least there's just the year left and his wage is rumoured to be 120K (too much, but like half what Eriksen is on), I think there'll be a market for him this summer.

Dean Henderson Is on 100k per week hand we’ve loaned him out while we pay his wages so he can slag the club off, that’s how bad this club has been run?

I wouldn’t sell Eriksen, he had a huge impact in our creativity just wasn’t the same player after Andy Carrol crocked him, hopefully he’s got his fitness back, also came back too early.

Hope you're right. I don't dispute that he was missed as soon as he got injured but I also think that is down to the bunch of average midfielders we have at the club. I would have preferred a much younger midfielder with an engine, and we definitely did pay him a lot and gave him a 3 year deal to make sure we got him. We shall see if he was rushed back and that's why he was gassed after two thirds of every game, but it was always a bit risky getting two +30 year olds to be the engine room.

I'm starting to believe the press are right and we only have a pittance to spend. What's with the absolute no traction on the selling front?

To give perspective , both Liverpool and Man City , when they bought Allison and Ederson respectively had Mignolet and Bravo respectively as backup before moving them on.
