ETH does not play Maguire on the left. So he's not going to play unless it's in case of Varane. Would have thought that would be obvious by now.
Going by the last phase of last season he's clearly behind Lindelof for the right center back spot as well. Its not like his preseason performance did anything to change that.

This route is closed to him now. After he ruined a West Ham deal with exorbitant severance demands, ETH won’t play him even in case of injury crisis.

That’s nonsense. If Maguire stays, of course he’ll get minutes. He’ll be fourth or fifth choice but Varane has shown he can’t play 60 games in a season and that’s the sort of fixture list we’re looking at. The club isn’t going to cut off its nose despite its face by letting him rot in the reserves. All that does is drive down his price further whilst also leaving the squad short of experienced cover at CB. If nothing else Ten Hag will see him as a useful player to bring on late in games to close things out.

Did you not see the horror of that last season? He is in no way reliable enough to do that - I can remember at least two games we were coasting and he came on and made our defense jittery. Would prefer Johnny Evans on a free for that role

Yep, I saw it, but I don’t pick the team. All I am saying is that if he stays he will get minutes. Just like last season. He will not be left to rot in the reserves like the poster I responded to predicts. It sucks, but that’s what will happen if he stays.

According to SKY Sports News, UTD have signed someone from Barcelona.

Nothing reported on here though, maybe the Redcafe people have gone to sleep after Maguire not going anywhere.

Edit: Oh bloody hell, forget about the above, it is women's football, stupid SSN.

Feels like Maguire staying has killed our transfer activity.
Rather underwhelming stumble to transfer deadline after things were looking promising a couple of weeks ago. Henderson, Maguire, Donny, Bailly all with deals fallen through. These 4 out would've likely seen at least 2 incomings.

United's inability/overplaying their hand in selling Maguire+McTominay has basically handicapped ETH from buying a CB and a midfielder, and that basically means our summer signings are done.

We should have just sold when WHU bid 60M for them, and paid Maguire off by finding some compromise. Got Amrabat and Pavard in, but that all looks unlikely now.

I do agree, however, there was never a contact between Maguire and West Ham regarding the contract. It was only the agreement between the clubs but without speaking to him. Obviously, he never was interested in them unless they pay him his wages he is earning here, and therefore the media jumped on it and made a story out of it like we never intended to sell him. He did destroy our plans to get another one or two players in, however, as a player he never was in touch with the club.

Maybe there is still a chance to sell Maguire and we can get a replacement (Todibo/Pavard). Regarding McT. it will depend on if we are able to sell VDB, but my last understanding was the refusal of 30 Mio. by West Ham. Not sure if they will come back again with a better offer so if we keep him as a bench player, I am ok with it.

Thought I had seen reports that he had agreed a 100K contract there, and was even offered captaincy by Moyes. But yeah, its dead in the water now. Similar to McT.

I also genuinely doubt us able to flog VdB on a loan changes our stance on Amrabat.

A damp squid ending to the transfer window, much like the club itself it appears. Although it will all change if we stuff spurs.

‘One more season’? This is not a worry we need right now. I think he can play at the top level for another 5 years.

Glad Varane at least committed to the rest of this season. Losing him would be a complete disaster. This is obviously a position we need investment in for the long term, even though it looks unlikely to happen this season.

It's a shame because others were putting it on a pedal stool.
Tbf it was shaping up nicely if Maguire MCT and VdB were on their way out and we got in the couple of players that were supposed to be pretty much nailed on, I as many others would have thought that was a great transfer window. Its taken a bit of a downward slump and we look only half way there. I'm still Excited about Onana and Hojlund, and I do think Mount will become a decent player for us. Just not enough unfortunately

Be good to ship out a couple more, Maguire seems determined to stay, seems mad with England playing time at stake. Be good to see some young lads that are ready get Prem loan deals. Hugil, Savage maybe,?

To not bring in another midfielder will be a drastic mistake. I understand we'll need to sell one of Mctominay or VDB firstly but we've let Fred go all the same.

This probably explains why Maguire (and his deluded mind) thinks he has a shot at the first team again.
Really hoped Varane would retire here. Worry now is this won’t go away and he leaves before next season..

This is obviously debatable but of those 3 I would have kept Fred . Ah well hopefully we can do some more business

I'd honestly be happy for him to move on after this season, we need up and coming world class players. He's getting on age-wise.

Yeah it’s like a huge flashing danger sign for me. I think it will border on negligence if we do not buy. Is it ffp or are we just completely skint? Surely if the first we’d accept another fine to ensure our season is not at risk of falling apart with one injury.

Fred made 50 appearances last season and we can’t say we are replacing him with Mount as they could not be more different as players. Unfair on Mainoo also, never mind the fact he is injured. McTominay is as defensively sound as fresh air so he is just pointless. Think we are going to regret it massively if we do not bring in cover at DM.

As opposed to current world class players? He is a good age for CB, his main issue is injuries but his knowledge, experience and quality would be fantastic to have around even when he is contributing less on the pitch.

We can't really replace him with a world class cb as of now so a worthless proposition really.

I think if we'd have singed Kim, Maguire would have left more easily

Yeah completely agree. At this stage of the window though if we let him go then our directors really do want their heads checking.

Some of these moves will still happen. Just will be closer to deadline day.

100% cash in next summer and I'd be tempted to do the same with Casemiro.

As for this window I'm keeping positive, we'll get one maybe 2 in.
