We have the highest amount of players (34) from the Top 5 teams in our squad. Man. City has 27, Arsenal 33, Chelsea 32, Liverpool 23. Liverpool might be in trouble with such a thin squad, but City has been most of the time under 30 players within a couple of years and successfully managed it.
There are some players we already got rid off to thinen our squad but I still think VDB, McT., Bailly, Williams, Hendo, Maguire are players we need to consider to sell. Considering the PL squad size is 25 players in total, and we have 17 players who do not fullfill the homegrown criteria plus 8 players who fullfill the homegrown criteria, there is still a huge number of players who sit in the stands every other week. Furthermore, we have a couple of very good prospects from our U21, so we always can have a look at and take them up with the first squad. We are on a good way, however, there is still work to do to have quality over quantity!
We definitely need to trim the squad. Fred has already been replaced. vdB never played so he doesn't need replacing. If we sell McTominay (hopefully), yes he will need replacing. The likes of Bailly, Williams, Henderson and any of the youth players will not need replacing. I also don't think there's much between Maguire and Evans so a replacement this summer isn't necessary. We tend to overstate the absolute need to replace 1:1 outgoing players. Supposedly the club would bring someone for shipping out Fred (done) and vdB (pending) but I'm not certain it's a necessity. If McTominay also leaves (more unlikely than not) yeah absolutely one midfielder for the squad would be welcomed.
United does rely a lot on Academy players of yet undefined quality / best positioning to make up this number, granted. Maybe they'll be up to it or not, we'll see.
Of course it's also about quality and adequation and not just quantity. We have plenty of forwards but only two real CFs, one with dodgy availability. Some players like Maguire could be upgraded upon.
Probably would not hurt to trim the squad down to 30-32.
Yes and ETH seems to prefer sending out the same 11 as much as possible anywayWe definitely need to trim the squad. Fred has already been replaced. vdB never played so he doesn't need replacing. Ten Hag has always been adamant that he wants 2 quality players for each position. A 22-25 man squad (with some youth making up the extra numbers) is fine imo. Quality over quantity.

You don't blame people for thinking this way when they make up stuff all the time. I remember when I use to believe the sun, daily express, is it the star or daily star. Good timesActually yeah, if it is the Sun, then you believe it is fake unless proven otherwise.
The is the defualt setting.
Its not even 50/50 its like a 3% chance its true. So 97/3 would be accurate.I tend to not believe anything in the Sun unless other newspapers also write the same thing. Doesn't mean it's always fake, just that it's a 50/50 whether it's true or not until a better source confirms it.
This number keeps risingEssentially, were signing nobody in defence now that Maguire has priced himself out of a move by demanding £15m to leave. We're also digging nobody in midfield unless we sell McTom I think. Don't think VdB will get enough money in to allow us to buy.

Sun or not, most journos have reported the move broke down as Maguire wanted a payoff from us first, so not a stretch to believe the amount The Sun claim.
No, it hasn’t. Don’t be ridiculous. One thing that I hope comes from this is that people stop with this bullshit "it's not your money" nonsense when people complain about transfer fees and wages. It's completely fecked our summer.
He's not at fault, it's a reasonable negotiating position to hold, but it does all depend on whether you care about playing or not. This stance means you must be willing to stay and not play, or you're bluffing. So I'll be interesting to see how this pans out for him, because he either must stick with his position or climb down on the severance. No, it hasn’t. Don’t be ridiculous.
The club haven’t forced him out, ETH is happy to have HM in the squad and if either of those things weren’t true or our whole transfer strategy for this window genuine hung on selling him the club would have paid the severance and Harry would be a WHU player.
Either way it’s up to the club to honour his contract or negotiate breaking it early. Harry has no fault here.

It has, not Harry specifically, but our continued reckless spending has prevented us signing the standard of players we needed to this season. I haven't blamed Maguire at any stage. He has his contract and has every right to see it out if he chooses to. This is completely the fault of the club and our incompetent negotiation team. No, it hasn’t. Don’t be ridiculous.

That doesn't really benefit us and is a bit petty. I think repeating his minutes from last season is fine, he's a very good quality back up in case of injury. I'd obviously prefer he left, but at this point, up to him. There's no point us making a loss and there's no point us not using him at all.Put him in the uer 23's till his contract expires
Eric Bailly a un accord avec Manchester United pour partir libre Fulham est intéressé
Le défenseur central a refusé Besiktas
Il a des portes de sortie en Arabie Saoudite et en Turquie
Éric Bailly has an agreement with Manchester United to leave free
Fulham are interested
The central defender refused Besiktas It has exit doors in Saudi Arabia and Turkey
Maguire is my hero.. the club is full of cnuts.. bleed them dry.. dont leave a single penny.
In that case I agree and apologise for the misunderstanding! This is completely the fault of the club and our incompetent negotiation team.
Not necessarily. Maybe he genuinely thinks he can force his way back into the team if/when Varane breaks down or Licha picks up a suspension. He's not at fault, it's a reasonable negotiating position to hold, but it does all depend on whether you care about playing or not. This route is closed to him now. After he ruined a West Ham deal with exorbitant severance demands, ETH won’t play him even in case of injury crisis.Maybe he genuinely thinks he can force his way back into the team if/when Varane breaks down or Licha picks up a suspension.
But as a baseline, if they're both fit, they play and Lindelof is ahead of him based on the Wolves game. So a lot has to happen for him to become first choice, he's got to be ok with the possibility he's 4th/5th choice, as that's what's been shown right now.Not necessarily. Maybe he genuinely thinks he can force his way back into the team if/when Varane breaks down or Licha picks up a suspension.

Did Erik tell you this himself, did he?This route is closed to him now. After he ruined a West Ham deal with exorbitant severance demands, ETH won’t play him even in case of injury crisis.
At least he's leaving and frees up some wages.Another overrated player on this forum leaving on a free.
I worry more about Casemiro getting a ban and not having someone to replace him.Any buzz on our transfer activity has completely paused - incomings or outgoings.
Us muppets need a more exciting end to the window.
But in all seriousness, as disappointing as it is not shifting Maguire and getting a quality replacement in, we really do need another quality mid-field signing. Will be painful watching Mctominay in the United midfield for another season.
ETH does not play Maguire on the left. So he's not going to play unless it's in case of Varane. Would have thought that would be obvious by now.But as a baseline, if they're both fit, they play and Lindelof is ahead of him based on the Wolves game.
