Really hoped Varane would retire here. Worry now is this won’t go away and he leaves before next season..
He's on big wages and injury line. I think he has one season left in him for top level football and selling next year for similar amount that we paid would be good business.

100% cash in next summer and I'd be tempted to do the same with Casemiro.

As for this window I'm keeping positive, we'll get one maybe 2 in.
Yup both need to go next summer, we've seen how players like Matic can drastically drop for after a certain age. Casemiro's style of play, couple with Varane's injury record makes them both ticking time bombs. Get rid and thank the saudis next year.

Thought I had seen reports that he had agreed a 100K contract there, and was even offered captaincy by Moyes. But yeah, its dead in the water now. Similar to McT.

I also genuinely doubt us able to flog VdB on a loan changes our stance on Amrabat.

Yes, and the remaining part he wanted to have from us as a difference payment. This is where it got stuck and we apparently decided to call it off unless he gets a better contract by West Ham. Still think this was an unique chance to get rid off him and focus on getting better quality replacements. As regards McT. we should have accepted the 30 Mio. offer as I think we will not get more for him. Now I just hope VDB leaves and we get at least Amrabat as a replacement and keep McT. on bench in worst case.

Should have signed Kim and Todibo, turfed out Slabhead and then let Varane leave for a nice retirement payday.

But nah Varane could force his way out if he really wanted to, and we'll be left with Evans and Slab.

Yea add not signing KMJ to the growing list of transfer feck ups. Another one who was more or less begging to come here for a reasonable fee.

The way varane put his head into the crowd and was celebrating I don't think that's someone off very soon he means business and not the money kind imo he will leave but I reckon in 2-3 years.

Fecking hell

That’s nonsense. If Maguire stays, of course he’ll get minutes. He’ll be fourth or fifth choice but Varane has shown he can’t play 60 games in a season and that’s the sort of fixture list we’re looking at. The club isn’t going to cut off its nose despite its face by letting him rot in the reserves. All that does is drive down his price further whilst also leaving the squad short of experienced cover at CB. If nothing else Ten Hag will see him as a useful player to bring on late in games to close things out.
His only chance of minutes is i

This places never ceases to crack me up. Selling Cas and Varane what next get rid of Rashy he was useless on Monday? Both are RollsRoyce players and will age fine. Further their experience will be invaluable. This is not footy manager. Last season was the 2 Red Bull CH‘s that we’re supposedly awesome one went to the Scousers one to Bayern how did they work out?

‘One more season’? This is not a worry we need right now. I think he can play at the top level for another 5 years.

Once the Saudi league gets those UEFA spots, players will find it a lot easier to move there.

I think it'd plausible depending on if and how far these players levels begin to drop. The notion of holding onto players beyond the tell tale signs of regressing physically is the reason why United's NET spend is borderline ridiculous and why the club is incompetent at selling for decent fees which has impacted the budget via FFP this season. Why would anyone want to continue that trend.

Varane should 100% not be retiring at United he's an injury prone player and eventually should be sold abroad if there's interest it's a no brainer.

It's what a well run club would do. City could squeeze out more from Laporte/ Mahrez, Liverpool Henderson/Fabinho but they've recouped good fee's for lads around 30.

Varane will be 31 and he's played in 47/77 possible premier league games. Top player when he's fit, absolutely not now but if Saudi come in for him you push him out the door, no brainer. Same with Casemiro, he'll be 32. He's more durable though, if he has a top season and plays 50 times maybe you don't but in any case it should be explored.

Casemiro and Varane definitely go to Saudi if they continue on the current trajectory.

Might not be the worst thing for us long term either depending on how they perform and our FFP position etc.

I really don't get the J Evans signing (if he gets a 1 yr contract) at 35 yrs and with no indication he can play the way ETH wants his CH to play. Added to the fact that Maguire is staying I just can't see the rationale of having that many central defenders.

What is the point of this? A 6th choice CB?

He wasn't even good during preseason :wenger:
He's most likely being extended to work with the U-23s just like Huddlestone is and McShane was in the past. At most, he'll be an emergency 6th CB in case of multiple injuries.

So you can’t have players in their 30’s now? Will city be getting rid of KDB who is older than both? City kept Fernandinho until 35, Chelsea have Thiago Silva.

Casemiro has an incredible injury record so the idea he has to be moved on because he will be 32 is nuts. Also, to throw away that know how of winning CLs and titles in a team that hasnt won much would be a terrible idea.

Well run clubs have players well above 31 too.

Why would Varane force his way out?

UEFA is literally the Union of European Football Associations. The Saudi league can feck right off. They're welcome to compete in the club world cup or whatever the FIFA come up with.

Sometimes I’m wondering if ETH is doing this to show Harry that he has absolutely no future at the club and will be even behind Evans. If we sign this one year contract with Evans, I could even imagine it would make it probably easier for Harry to leave and safe his England career for the European Championship next year.

Which ones? Unicorns like Modric aren’t the norm.

Salah is 31 and literally elite snd I can see them getting rid next summer. De Bruyne is the other one that springs to mind and he’s breaking down physically.

After next year Varane will still have 2 years left on 340k a week, at 31 with his injury record id be getting rid.

Not even an option yet so we’ll see, just if Saudi is there to be exploited we should be all over it rather than moan when our rivals are rinsing it.

Just let go our best defender by far…Varane is the last worry in this team. He is still young for a center back and just call it a day with France to prolonge his club career.
It’s not football manager.

46 PL appearances in two seasons suggests as great as he is when he does play, he certainly cannot be relied upon.

For that reason if there was ever a sniff to sell and recoup some of that money, I can fully understand why some fans would be all for it.

Ultimately after a decade of burning through money, United are now having to take FFP very seriously. The Saudi project presents both players and European clubs opportunities for players to rake in some big bucks. Fabinho, Mane and Mendes stick out like sore things when it comes to club's taking advantage...and then there's Zenit with Malcom

One thing we all want to see is the club making better decisions when it comes to monetary value and timing, and with this emergence of big spending directly in Saudi, rather than investment from Saudi, I can definitely see more big names approaching their latter years such as Varane or even Casemiro making moves.

I got told by the caf CB isn't a priority this summer when Bayern signed Kim Min-jae
